Nokia to Host Launch Event on 24 June, Tipped to Debut Nokia X2 Android Smartphone

The much-anticipated Nokia X2 budget Android smartphone will reportedly make its debut next week.

Nokia has tweeted an image with the message "Stay tuned next week Tuesday 24th...", hinting the company might announce a new device on the day. And going by the poster (at official blog Nokia Conversations) which has the tagline 'Green with Envy', many believe the company is set to officially announce the rumoured second generation Android smartphone Nokia X2.

Prior to Nokia X's launch, the company ran a similar promotional campaign. At the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2014 live webcast, the company came up with a teaser image, which showed four black arrows pointing each other, forming the alphabet 'X'.

Nokia X2 is understood to be an entry-level phone like its predecessor but it will have some upgrades in terms of a few key specifications like screen size, CPU speed, a secondary camera and physical memory.

According to the recently leaked report (via AnTuTu benchmarking site), the new phone will sport a 4.3-inch WVGA (800x480p) and ship with 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 series dual-core CPU backed by Adreno 305 graphics engine, 1GB RAM, 4GB inbuilt memory (expandable) and two-cameras - a 5.0-megapixel main camera and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) snapper on the front.

Whereas its predecessor Nokia X features a 4.0-inch WVGA display, 1GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB inbuilt memory (expandable up to 32GB) and a 3.0-megapixel camera (no secondary camera).

Nokia X2 will run on the tweaked Android Open Source Project (v4.3 Jelly Bean) OS. Instead of Google-based Gmail, Play Store and Maps services, people will find Nokia's very own 'Here', 'City Lens' maps service, browsers and others, similar to what we see in the Nokia X series smartphones.

Nokia (now owned by Microsoft Corp) currently sells three Nokia X series devices - X, X+ and XL - all under the budget smartphone segment.
