Thursday's episode of "The Vampire Diaries" could be the last time we'll see former couple Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder together.
Both Somerhalder and Dobrev, who got romantically involved shortly after meeting on the sets of "The Vampire Diaries" in 2009, gained a huge fan following playing fictional characters Damon and Elena, and even after they split up, fans were hopeful of a reunion.
But Somerhalder dashed all hopes by dating Reed, shortly after which rumours started swirling around about an alleged tension between Somerhalder and Dobrev. Some reports even stated that Reed's constant presence on the set was responsible for Dobrev's decision to quit the show.
And despite executive producer Julie Plec trying to convince Dobrev to stay on for a bit longer, she left the vampire drama to pursue other opportunities.
On Thursday, the season 6 finale, fans will finally know what will happen to her character Elena Gilbert.

The finale is surely going to be an emotional one for Damon-Elena fans, as this could be the last time we'll see the characters together. Although there could be flashback scenes featuring Elena in season 7, fans wouldn't see her playing an active role in Damon's life.
Speculations are already rife that Damon could get a new love interest in season 7, but based on online chatter it looks like fans are yet to accept the idea of Damon having feelings for someone else.
Dobrev recently opened up about leaving the show, saying although she loved the journey, the fairytale had to come to an end .
"It's been a great journey, but at the end of the day, I'm not actually a vampire. The fairy tale has to end, and the next chapter has to begin," 26-year-old Dobrev told The Hollywood Reporter.
Although she is not a part of the show, Dobrev said she hoped to keep in touch with her castmates. "I am very sad that I'm not going to get to spend every day with my favorite people in the world, but, that's why we have FaceTime and phone calls," she said. "Friendships are like vampires: They'll last forever if they're real."
However, it remains to be seen what will happen to Dobrev's friendship with Somerhalder.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 finale will air Thursday on The CW.
