Resident of Hawaii were in a state of panic on 13, January when a missile alert message was mistakenly broadcast on TV and radio and sent via text.The message was sent when an employee at the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency pressed the wrong button.A follow up text message to correct the mistake was allegedly not sent for over half an hour. North Korea celebrated the New Year with a firework display on 1 January in Pyongyang. An ice sculpture festival started off the celebrations with a replica of the countries new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Hwasong-15.  Tensions have been rising over North Koreas nuclear and missile programs, which Pyongyang continues to pursue in defiance of U.N.
