Here is the list of top opening weekend grossers of 2013 based on domestic (India) collections.
Chennai Express
The Shah Rukh Khan starrer raked in ₹100.42 crore in its opening weekend at the domestic box office, according to Bollywoodhungama.
The action-comedy entertainer, which released on 9 August, fetched ₹33.12 crore on the first day of its release. The film still remains the highest opening day grosser in India.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, "Chennai Express" has Deepika Padukone as the female lead. The actress is riding high on the back-to-back success of her films this year. With the success of "Chennai Express", Deepika has hit a hat-trick in films. Her first release of the year, "Race 2", and "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" were also big hits.
Krrish 3
Hrithik Roshan's "Krrish 3" has earned ₹72.8 crore in its debut weekend. The film, which released on 1 November, minted ₹25.50 crore in its first day. Despite releasing on a non-holiday Friday, the superhero flick managed to fetch fantastic collections at the box office.
The film has surpassed "Chennai Express" lifetime collections (₹227.13) earning over ₹235 crore at the domestic box office.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone's "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" (YJHD) has raked in ₹62.11 crore in the first weekend. Although the film surpassed the ₹100 crore mark, it failed to make it to the ₹200-crore club. The lifetime collections of "YJHD" stood at ₹188.57 crore.
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela
Ranveer-Deepika's romantic drama flick raked in ₹52.75 crore in its debut weekend. The film's opening day collections stood at ₹16 crore. Its collections were much higher on Saturday (₹17.25 crore) and Sunday (₹19.25 to ₹19.50 crore).
Although the film fetched pretty good figures, it failed to beat opening weekend collections of "Krrish 3", which is still running in theatres.
Race 2
Saif Ali Khan-John Abraham's "Race 2" earned ₹51.35 crore in its debut weekend. The film did well and was declared a hit in India as well as overseas box office. The action thriller was the first film to enter into the elite ₹100-crore club this year.
Besharam
Ranbir Kapoor's "Besharam" raked in ₹47.69 crore in its opening weekend at the domestic box office.
The film fetched good collections on the first day earning ₹21.56 crore. However, the numbers drastically declined from the second day owing to poor reviews. Despite having a five-day long weekend, "Besharam" managed to collect just ₹47.69 crore, which is quite low for a film that had a solo wide release.
Boss
Akshay Kumar's "Boss" earned ₹40.75 crore in its first weekend. The film was released upon high expectations, but failed to impress the audience.
The action entertainer, which hit the screens on 16 October, managed to cross the ₹50 crore mark at the Indian box office. The film is still being screened in a few theatres.
Grand Masti
Adult comedy entertainer earned ₹40.18 crore in the opening weekend. The film, which released on 23 September, took 23 days to cross the ₹100 crore mark.
Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara! (OUATIMD)
The Akshay starrer earned ₹40 crore in its first weekend. The film failed to live up to the expectations, despite releasing on a long weekend (15 August).
The collections of "OUATIMD" were largely affected by "Chennai Express", which released a week ahead of the gangster flick. The SRK starrer was given priority by theatres which hampered "OUATIMD" business.
Satyagraha
Amitabh-Ajay Devgn-kareena starrer "Satyagraha performed well at the box office. The film raked in ₹39.12 crore in its opening weekend.
The political drama flick crossed the ₹50 crore mark and minted ₹63.74 crore as lifetime collections.
