Speculations over the release date of Sony PlayStation 4 (Sony PS4) have been doing rounds for the past few months. Now, latest reports suggest that the next-generation console would be released during the Easter holiday.
Sony's UK Facebook page revealed a deep red egg shaped device with a tagline, "It's coming", sparking off rumours that PlayStation 4 would hit stores this Easter. Sony has not displayed any image of the upcoming gaming console.
"Well i think it could be an egg come Easter its gonna crack open and reveal The PS4," wrote a fan of PlayStation.
"It looks like the ps4 is encased inside the shell," said another.
The image of the egg-shaped device may point out to Sony's partnership with Italian studio Ovosonico. The company's name is derived from the word "ovo", meaning "egg". The logo of Ovosonico's Twitter account is similar to the photo posted on Sony's UK Facebook page.
Many think that the egg-shaped device might not be PS4, arguing that Sony would have revealed it on the PlayStation page.
"I doubt the PS4 would actually be a set of 3 spheres. Plus, if it were the actual console, this image wouldn't of only been released through Sony UK's page," wrote a Facebook user.
"It's not the PS4. It's an egg! Remember Easter is coming soon. Anyways if it was the PS4 it would have been posted to the PlayStation Page not the Sony one!" said another.
Here are the specifications of Sony PS4:
CPU: Single-chip custom processor, x86-64 AMD "Jaguar" 8 cores
GPU: 18 "compute units" capable of cranking out 1.84 TFLOPS, AMD next generation Radeon based graphics engine
Memory: 8GB GDDR5 RAM capable of 176GB/sec of bandwidth
Connectivity: 802.11n WiFi, USB 3.0, Bluetooth 2.1, Auxillary ports, Analog AV, and digital optical outputs and HDMI.
It was reported that Sony PS4 DualShock 4 controller has been remodelled and cloud gaming technology would be introduced. It is expected to be priced between $400 and $500 upon release.
