Sony revealed 'mock-up' designs of the PlayStation 4 (Sony PS4) controller and eye at the ongoing Games Developers Conference (GDC) 2013 in San Francisco, California.
The gaming giant also revealed a few details about the yet-to-be launched PS4 console at the conference. Chris Norden, Sony's senior staff engineer, showcased user account control, social functions and a new interface of the device. He said that PS4 could be directly linked to social networks and other PlayStation devices.
Sony's UK Facebook page had earlier posted an image of an egg-shaped device with a tagline, "It's coming", sparking rumours that PS4 may release on Easter holiday. The company later confirmed that the image was not that of the fourth-generation gaming console.
"We can confirm it (egg-shaped photo) is NOT the following: A range of eggs that Sony will sell in supermarkets, Sony Spaceship, a new type of Walkman for chickens, sponsorship of the Easter Bunny, PlayStation 4," Sony wrote on its Facebook page.
Sony is yet to announce the officials release of PS4.
Here are the specifications of PS4:
CPU: Single-chip custom processor, x86-64 AMD "Jaguar" 8-core
GPU: 18 "compute units" capable of cranking out 1.84 TFLOPS, next generation AMD Radeon based graphics engine.
Memory: 8GB GDDR5 RAM and 176GB/sec of bandwidth
Connectivity: 802.11n WiFi, USB 3.0, Bluetooth 2.1, Auxillary ports, Analog AV, and digital optical outputs and HDMI.
It was reported that Sony PS4 DualShock 4 controller has been remodelled and cloud gaming technology would be introduced. It is expected to be priced between $400 and $500.
