Sweets exchanged between India and Pakistan at border on Republic Day

Jammu and Kashmir, Jan 26 (ANI): Soldiers from both India and Pakistan exchanged sweets across the Wagah Border of Amritsar to mark the 65th anniversary of India’s Republic Day on Sunday. Deputy Inspector General of the Border Security Force (BSF) M.S. Faruqi said, this was a tradition that is practiced every year on the occasion.

Unprovoked firing from Pakistan on Republic Day

Jammu & Kashmir, Jan 26 (ANI): General Officer Commanding of 19 Infantry Division Major General Anil Chauhan said that there was unprovoked firing from Pakistani side on Sunday which continued for almost three hours. Although, he said that there was no retaliation from India’s side in order to maintain peace and tranquility on the borders on Republic Day. In what was the first case of ceasefire violation since the last month's DGMO level talks, Pakistan breached the ceasefire this morning at 6:15 am.

Separatists in Kashmir call for shutdown on Republic Day.

Srinagar, Jan 26 (ANI): Separatists called for a complete shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir on 65th Republic Day on Sunday. The shutdown call was given by hardliner Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and was supported by a host of separatist groups.
