No question of delaying gas price hike: Veerappa Moily on Kejriwal's demand

New Delhi, Feb 14 (ANI): Union Oil Minister Veerappa Moily has said that the gas price would be hiked as planned on April 1, rejecting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's demand. Kejriwal, who has also initiated a criminal investigation against Moily and Mukesh Ambani, for allegedly colluding to inflate gas prices, had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to delay gas price hike.

Lower minimum support prices will help curb inflation: Raghuram Rajan,

Mumbai, Feb 14 (ANI): Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan, has said that a moderation in the minimum support prices for agricultural products would help curb inflation in the country. He said that inappropriate price adjustments in these areas will burden the central bank. Rajan added that it was best for the reserve bank to link prices to market realities.

Shutdown in Andhra Pradesh continues over Telangana row

Guntur, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Feb 14 (ANI): Supporters of YSR Congress party and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) called for shutdown for second consecutive day in various districts of Andhra Pradesh on Friday against the creation of a new state. Members of YSR Congress party burnt tyres and staged a protest shouting slogans on the streets of Guntur district against the central government over its decision of creation of a separate state, Telangana by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh. Effect of shutdown was also seen in capital city Hyderabad, where businesses remained shut and also in the port city of Visakhapatnam where no public transport was visible and people were seen waiting at the bus stops.

Govt set to raise Rs 61,162 cr from spectrum auction

New Delhi, Feb 14 (ANI): India is set to raise about Rs 61,162 crore from the auction of telecommunication spectrum, said Telecoms secretary M F Farooqui, far exceeding the government's target as it tries to narrow its budget deficit. Eight companies, including Bharti Airtel Ltd, Vodafone Group Plc's India unit and Reliance Industries Ltd, had applied to bid in the auction of 900 megahertz and 1800 megahertz band airwaves.
