India seeks to regulate its booming Rent-A-Womb industry

Gujarat/ New Delhi/ Mumbai, Oct 01 (ANI): India, one of only a few countries to allow commercial surrogacy, is now contemplating a law that would make surrogacy for foreigners, as well as gay couples, much more difficult amid mounting concerns over the exploitation of women whose wombs are rented and to protect the rights of the surrogate child. The government’s move to introduce a law - the Assisted Reproductive Technologies Bill (ART), 2010 - to ensure the protection of surrogates, the children, as well as the commissioning parents, is long over due. For some surrogate mothers renting their womb provides sufficient money to support their family and even build a house or buy a car.

Jaipur, Oct 01 (ANI): As Rajasthan Food minister from Congress party Babulal Nagar who is accused of raping a 35-year old woman is roaming freely without any arrest, the rape victim says that Nagar has immense power which he will use to win and after that, there won't be any option left for me other than death. She further said that the accused offered her money to be quiet and on her refusal, he could not take it. The victim also said that the DNA and blood test will prove everything and will bring the truth in the forefront.

Mumbai, Oct 01 (ANI): Jailed Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt who was on Tuesday granted 14 days parole for medical reasons said that he has got furlough which is the right of every prisoner in jail. Media reports said that 53-year-old Dutt, who is currently lodged in Pune's Yerawada jail, has been given this benefit to be able to spend some time with his family. He is currently serving a 42-month sentence in connection with the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case. Dutt is reportedly said to be experiencing pain because of blood clots in his legs. He also suffers from high blood pressure and wants to consult doctors while out on parole.

Shinde's letter: Muslims targeted without reason and should be saved, says SP

Sexual assault case: Rajasthan HC rejects Asarams bail plea

New Delhi, Oct 01 (ANI): The Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of self-styled godmanAsaram Bapu, arrested on allegation of sexually assaulting a minor girl. Asaram, had filed a bail application before the Jodhpur bench of the high court on September 13. The bail application first came up for hearing on September 16 and since the arguments remained inconclusive, the high court put off the proceedings till September 18 and then decided to hear his bail plea on October 01. Asaram is lodged in the Jodhpur Central Jail since September 02.

Khandwa jail incident: Security lapses responsible, says Congress

New Delhi, Oct 01 (ANI): After a major embarrassment for jail authorities when seven prisoners escaped from Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa jail in the wee hours on Tuesday, Congress leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi said that the incident happened due to security lapses and action must be taken against those responsible for it. Seven prisoners escape from Khandwa jail in MP, one nabbed

Khandwa/Bhopal, Oct 1 (ANI): In a major embarrassment to the Madhya Pradesh police, seven prisoners escaped from state's Khandwa jail in the wee hours of Tuesday. According to reports, six of the men allegedly belong to the Students Islamic Movement of India or SIMI, which was banned in 2001 over its alleged terror links. However, one of the prisoners has been caught. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta promised to take an action against the erring officials and said that the authorities would probe as to why this incident happened. The police have now declared a high alert in Khandwa and adjoining areas.

'Rape accused' Babulal Nagar cries conspiracy

Jaipur, Oct 01 (ANI): Rape accused former Rajasthan Minister Babulal Nagar, who has been suspended from the Congress Party said on Tuesday that his political opponents were trying to frame him to malign his reputation. 53-year-old Nagar said the party is supreme for him, and added that he would not like anybody to point fingers at his party following the allegations of rape levelled against him.

New Delhi, Oct 01 (ANI): Former Rajasthan minister Babulal Nagar, who was accused of raping a woman, has been suspended from the Congress Party. The decision was taken by the AICC after the state Congress declined to act against him despite public outrage and grave charges levelled against him. Media reports suggest that Nagar had undergone medical tests, as part of the investigation into the case, after evading the probe for over one week. Earlier, the Jaipur Police had lodged an First Information Report (FIR) against Nagar and ordered a probe.

Congress welcomes petrol price slash, links diesel hike to international market

New Delhi, Oct 01 (ANI): Congress leader Rashid Alvi welcomed the petrol price slash, and linked the diesel hike to trends in the international market. Petrol prices were cut by Rs 3.05 per litre, and diesel prices were raised by 50 paise per litre. This is the first reduction in petrol rates in over five months, and comes as the most significant depreciation in over five years.
