Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League ended with more than two-thirds of seats in a contest that was shunned by international observers, terming them as flawed and derided as a farce by the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). BNP leader and Hasina's bitter rival, Khaleda Zia, said the new government was not legitimate and unconstitutional, devoid of the representation of the people. Khaleda Zia also urged the ruling party to initiate talks for setting up a fair and democratic government in the country. Jan 16, 2014
