Andaman and Nicobar Lt Gov proposes slew of safety guidelines post boat tragedy

Port Blair, Feb 11 (ANI): Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lt Gen (Retd) AK Singh, proposed a slew of security guidelines to ensure safety of tourists in an aftermath of the boat capsize tragedy that claimed 21 lives off Port Blair. Singh accepted that boat safety rules were slightly shaky and needed a serious review after the recent capsize tragedy so that such incidents do not repeat. Singh also said the islands were faced with many other issues such as lack of educational institutions and better healthcare centres. Addressing the issue of higher education, Singh said the administration was planning to open medical colleges in the islands that would accommodate large number of native students. Feb 11, 2014

Raipur, Feb 11 (ANI): Police arrested five Maoists in Raipur. The arrest comes a day after the landmine blast by suspected rebellions in Sukma village that killed two and injured eight CRPF personnel. Additional Director General (ADG) of Police (Intelligence), Mukesh Gupta said that the five Maoists were arrested in Bijapur district of the region during a joint search operation. Lt Governor gives nod to SIT probe on 1984-anti Sikh riots

New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung gave a nod to the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government's recommendations for a probe by Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the 1984-anti Sikh riots. Speaking over the decision senior lawyer of Delhi High Court H.S Phoolka said under the SIT probe, all those cases which were closed or shown untraced would be re-opened, re-investigated and if the need arises fresh FIRs would be registered.
