Khajuraho, feb 21 (ANI): The world-renowned Dance Festival began in Khajuraho - the city of ancient temples - in India's central province of Madhya Pradesh, with an aim to promote cultural and traditional dances of the country. Dancers performed several old and traditional Indian dance forms like Bharatanatyam and Odissi attempting to keep the dances alive as a part of our heritage. The dancers described their experience of performing in Khajuraho city, a place famous for its temples with exquisite sex sculptures and paintings, a holy one. Many classical artists were honoured at the festival and young dancers got a platform to showcase their talent. The event saw the presence of various provincial leaders including state culture and tourism minister, Surendra Patwa. Many tourists from other countries also made it to the festival to view and participate in it.The week-long event will see classical dancers performing various dance styles including Kuchipudi, Kathak and Manipuri. Moradabad, feb 21 (ANI): The district administration in Moradabad city of India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh organised a dog show that saw dogs of various breeds participating. The show was organised in the newly inaugurated Deer Park that featured more than 200 dogs, belonging to 22 canine breeds. The dogs walked the ramp, delighting the audience and dog lovers with their performances.The organisers seemed happy with the response they received.All the canines took part in competitions and were also rewarded for their performances.The show featured dogs ranging from six inches to five-feet in height. The major breeds that participated included Labrador, Bhutia, Pomeranian, Pavilion, Bulldog and German Shepherd.During the dog show, the audience was also given information about dogs, their habits and breeds.Spectators and owners of the participating dogs seemed impressed by the show. The main attraction of the show was Dogo Canario from Spain. The dog's owner had specially imported the dog from Spain one year back. The dog was earlier a part of the Spanish military. Moradabad, feb 21 (ANI): The ethnic group of Mishing in India's northeastern province of Assam celebrated a seed sowing festival in which devotees prayed to God Donyi-Polo (the god of Sun-Moon) for a great harvest. Called 'Ali Ai Ligang', it is a spring festival associated with agriculture. A participant said the festival marks the ceremonial start of the paddy sowing. The Mishing community in Assam and northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh pray to God Donyi-Polo for the development. During the festival celebrations, a small area of land is marked to resemble a cultivation field. The land is ploughed with spade and then seeds are sowed from a basket by the member of the community. People dance, sing, and feast during the celebrations, and as a mark of honour people offer fish and eggs to the god. The famous traditional 'Gumrag' dance is also performed during the auspicious occasion by people of all ages within the community. However, people within the community opined that 'Ali Ai Ligang' is slowly disappearing from their society due to impact of westernization.
