Good work done by SP govt is not reported: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Aug 23 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said that the good work done by SP Government is not reported. Talking to mediapersons in Lucknow, he said that the incidents in UP are being exaggerated & politicized, CBI probes are called regularly. He added that where the Govt is at fault media should run it but not exaggerate it because it’s UP.

Jains begin fasting to mark Paryushana festival

Rajkot, Aug 23 (ANI): Devotees flocked Jain temples and began fasting as eight-day-long religious festival of Paryushana began. Paryushana, which means self cleansing, is significant for Jain community which marks a time of repentance, sacrifices and intense worship accompanied by fasting. During fasting period, Jains worship 24 Tirthankaras, who attained enlightenment. The two Jains sects, Shwetambar and Digambar, follow this occasion on different days. Devotees in Rajkot city of Gujarat visited the Maniar Derasar or the Maniar temple.

Karnataka CM & many other pay tribute to UR Ananthamurthy

Bangalore, Aug 23 (ANI): Thousands of mourners paid their last respects to Jnanpith award winner and Kannada literary icon UR Ananthamurthy, who passed away on Friday. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah along with his cabinet ministers, Union Ministers Ananth Kumar and DV Sadananda Gowda, Kannada writers and leaders of all parties paid tribute to Ananthamurthy. The mortal remains of Ananthamurthy were kept for public homage at the premises of the Ravindra Kalakshetra as the state observed three days of mourning. His last rites are performed according to Hindu rituals at Kalagrama inside Bangalore University premises.

2 brothers killed for allegedly opposing eve teasing

Faridpur, Aug 23 (ANI): In a shocking incident of crime in Uttar Pradesh, two brothers were killed for allegedly opposing teasing of their sister by two of the village residents. Two brothers of Faridpur district of Bareilly were found dead with their bodies cut into pieces after which the accused ran away. River Sarayu in UP erodes land causing misery to locals

Deoria, Aug 23 (ANI): Villages in Barhaj town located along the banks of River Sarayu in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh were on the verge of being washed away by the river waters. Lands abutting the riverbank are getting lost due to gradual erosion. Villagers complained of not getting any help from the district administration. Over 450 households in Deoria district have been affected due to land erosion and people accuse that they are getting minimum support from the district administration. On the flip side, sub-divisional magistrate of Barhaj, Shailendra Kumar said people were being shifted to government houses. Erosion caused by River Sarayu has displaced several families and forced them to seek temporary shelter elsewhere.
