Indian Muslims prepare traditional vermicelli ahead of Eid festival

Khuldabad, July 22 (ANI): Traditional vermicelli makers worked extra hours in Maharashtra to meet demands of Muslims as Eid-al- Fitr is nearing, which marks the end of holy month of Ramadan. Muslims in India prepare special delicacies made of Vermicelli to serve guests on Eid. In old city of Khuldabad, women workers indulged in making traditional handmade vermicelli. A worker, Kaisaruddin, said Vermicelli making is one of the oldest and traditional works of Khuldabad, which is mainly practiced by women. Sweet vermicelli is a traditional Muslim dish which is eaten during the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth of 12 months in the Islamic calendar. Ramadan lasts for 29 or 30 days and culminates in the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, tens of millions across the Muslim world make every effort to be more spiritual.

Ganajagoran Mancha recalls horrors of liberation 1971 struggle through cartoon show

Dhaka, July 22 (ANI): The people_s resurgence platform of Bangladesh, Ganajagoran Mancha, organized a cartoon show on Monday to protest against the country_s Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami and war criminals accused of genocide during the 1971 liberation struggle. The organizers of the show also demanded death penalty for all the war criminals. One of the organizers of the cartoon show, Al-Noman, slammed Jamaat-e-Islami for supporting the war criminals. The 1971 war, in which an estimated three million people died in nine months, is a festering wound not only for those personally affected, but also for many young Bangladeshis.

Green Brigade plants over one lakh trees in Ludhiana for greener city

Ludhiana, July 22 (ANI): People in Punjab planted 1.25 lakh trees in an attempt to provide green lungs to Ludhiana city and also to achieve a new world record. According to a report by World Health Organisation (WHO), Ludhiana was among the top ten polluted cities in the world. In a bid to make Ludhiana a green city, a non-governmental organisation, ___Sambhav___, a youth leadership training organisation, urged people to plant trees. One of the participants, Davinder Singh Pal, claimed to have broken the world record. The event also witnessed participation of Indian Institute of Architects, Ludhiana Chapter (IIA-LC) along with city___s Mayor. Organisers gave free saplings, tools and assistance in order to evoke more public involvement.

India beat England at Lord's after 28 Years

New Delhi, July 21 (ANI): India clinched their first Test win at the historic Lord's after 28 years after Ishant Sharma took seven wickets for 74 runs in a dramatic post-lunch session at Lord's on Monday. India, thus, took a 1-0 lead in the five-Test series as the first Test at Nottingham ended in a draw. The third Test starts in Southampton on July 27. Skipper MS Dhoni said that the victory was because of team work. It took 28 long years for India to win a Test match at the 'Home of Cricket' after 'Kapil Dev's team achieved the feat back in June 1986 winning by five wickets. Scores: England 319 and 223 (J. Pakistan delegation arrives in Gujarat to study riverfront project

Ahmedabad, July 21 (ANI): A Pakistani delegation arrived on Monday in Gujarat to study Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project to replicate it along River Ravi in Lahore. The four-member delegation visited the riverfront park in Ahmedabad and inquired about technical details of the project that was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he was the chief minister of Gujarat. Commissioner of Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Rashid Mahmood Langrial, said they wanted to study technical parameters, how the project addressed environmental aspects and urban renewal issues.

Don't want to be with the losing side, says Rane after quitting Maharashtra government

Mumbai, July 21 (ANI): Congress leader and Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane, who resigned from the state cabinet on Monday, said that he did not see a good future for the Congress in the upcoming elections and that he does not want to be with the losing side. Rane launched a direct attack on Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and alleged that his faulty style of functioning had led to party's defeat in Lok Sabha polls. Rane further said that the lack of governance in the state has made people angry as was evident by the Lok Sabha poll results. The former Shiv Sainik – he had joined the Congress in 2005 - claimed that the CM had failed to serve the people of the state, while stressing that no attempt is being made to curb corruption in the state and that people are not getting justice.

Visually impaired students beaten mercilessly by teachers

Kakinada, July 21 (ANI): Three visually impaired students were beaten up mercilessly by their school correspondent for being "ïndisciplined" in Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh. The bizarre incident took place on Friday and came to light only on Monday when some unidentified persons brought up the video clippings. Angry parents of the children and social activists staged protests in front of the Greenfields School for the Blind over the same. A case has been registered and investigation is on.
