JD (U) inching closer to forging alliance with Lalu_s RJD: Vashisht Narayan Singh

New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): The chief of the Bihar unit of the Janata Dal-United JD (U) party, Vashisht Narayan Singh, on Tuesday, said that his party is inching closer to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), but added that the timing of meeting RJD chief Lalu Yadav is yet to be decided. The JD (U) initiative to authorize state president Vasistha Narayan Singh to initiate talks with parties opposed to the BJP has got a warm response from the RJD and Congress.

New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): Political leaders react as Congress came under trouble with resignation from a number of party leaders including Narayan Rane and Himanta Biswa Sarma. New Delhi/ Mumbai, July 22 (ANI): Fans and budding sportsmen on Tuesday lauded India_s victory in the second test after Ishant Sharma bowled India to a rare victory at Lords, the home of cricket. Ishant Sharma claimed seven wickets to bowl India to a 95-run victory over England in the second test at Lord_s on Monday, their first overseas win since 2011. This is India_s second victory at the home of cricket and first since 1986. Resuming at 105 for four in pursuit of 319, Joe Root and Moeen Ali survived until the final ball before lunch when the latter fell to Sharma. MH17 black boxes handed over

New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): Pro-Russian rebels in Ukraine have handed over the two _black box_ recorders from Flight MH17, shot down over Ukraine to Malaysian officials. A leader of the Pro-Russian separatists, who controls the area where the plane came down, formally presented them early on Tuesday. Aleksander Borodai handed them over after lengthy negotiations with Malaysia whose officials thanked him for doing so. The Malaysian Airlines plane went down in an area of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People_s Republic on Thursday. All 298 passengers and crew on board were killed.

New Delhi faces urbanization crisis as world_s second most populous city

New Delhi, July 22 (ANI): Indian capital New Delhi, which was recently named the second most populous city in the world after Tokyo, is bursting at the seams - struggling to meet the challenges of a population explosion, experts warned. Home to 25 million people, a number more than the population of Australia, Delhi has become the world_s second most populous city, said a United Nations report released by its Department of Economic and Social Welfare. The primary problem, the report stated, lies in migration of people from rural areas to urban areas in lookout for better living conditions. Meijer said it is difficult to stop people from migrating but advised a managed and fair distribution of revenues by the government to ensure good quality of living for all sections.

MN Reddi takes charge as Bangalore Commissioner

Bangalore, July 22 (ANI): With furore over the rape of a 6-year old girl still on, MN Reddi took charge as the Commissioner of Bangalore. The case took a toll on the previous commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar and additional commissioner of police (law and order) Kamal Pant who were transferred on Monday. The officials are replaced by Reddi and IGP (grievances and human rights) Alok Kumar respectively. Reddi maintained that the security of women is priority and that their problems will be addressed systematically.

Dalai Lama in Dharamsala terms Israel-Gaza violence unthinkable, sad

Dharamsala, July 22 (ANI): Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, has said that the ongoing crisis in Israel and Gaza is very sad and totally opposite to what their religion promotes. Israeli forces killed 10 Palestinian militants who slipped across the border from Gaza through hidden tunnels on Monday, the military said, as the death toll from the two-week conflict passed 500 amid growing international calls for an end. Non-stop attacks lifted the Palestinian death toll to 496, including almost 100 children, since fighting started on July 08. Israel says 18 of its soldiers have also died along with two civilians. While addressing mediapersons at Kangra domestic airport in Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh, Dalai Lama said he did not expect such sort of violence and misbehavior from people who claim to have faith in religious principles.

Assam Students Union protest infiltration of Bangladeshis in state

Guwahati, July 22 (ANI): Various activist groups, including tribal organisations and All Assam Students Union (AASU) staged a protest in Assam against the state government for its inability to stop Bangladeshis infiltrate into the state. The proposal sent by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi___s cabinet to the central government to accommodate Bangladeshis on humanity grounds has not been welcomed by the people of the state. Last week, the state cabinet passed a proposal to grant Indian citizenship to refugees who fled Bangladesh to avoid religious persecution and entered the country after 1971. Wife defends husband accused of child_s sexual assault in Bangalore

Public anger erupted after two staff members raped a girl on the school premises. Skating instructor of the public school, Mustafa, was arrested on Sunday by the city police.
