Paramilitary force kills three cattle smugglers in West Bengal

West Bengal, Feb 12 (ANI): India’s paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) killed three Bangladeshi cattle smugglers near the India-Bangladesh border in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The smugglers, a gang of eight to 10, were trafficking cattle into Bangladesh when the BSF personnel opened fire at them. Of the three killed, two died on the spot, while the other smugglers managed to escape into Bangladesh with the body of the third accomplice. A BSF soldier was injured in the incident. Later in the day, Indian and Bangladeshi officials met to discuss the issue of cattle trafficking and also handed over the two bodies to Bangladeshi officials. Feb 12, 2015

Bengaluru showcases cartoon exhibition on cricket ahead of World Cup

Bengaluru, Feb 12 (ANI): Cricket fever has started gripping the country ahead of World Cup 2015 as an exhibition of cartoons of cricket players put on display in India’s IT hub Bengaluru has been attracting the sport lovers. The exhibition by self-taught cartoonist Satish Acharya displays 65 of his chosen cartoons for young and old cricket fans. The cartoons depict Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Pakistani cricket team and the crisis within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) among many other works. The exhibition will culminate on the day World Cup starts. World Cup 2015 starts in New Zealand and Australia on Saturday with rivals Pakistan and India playing against each other on Sunday. Avalanche in Kashmir kills one

Gulmarg, Feb 12 (ANI): A tourist ski guide died after he was buried in an avalanche of snow in India’s Kashmir. At around 1.20 p.m on Wednesday a mass of snow came down in a rush from the Apharwat Mountain, where there is a ski resort, in Gulmarg hill station. The avalanche also trapped three skiers, reports said. The deceased has been identified as Bashir Ahmad Bakshi, a resident near the ski resort. Family and friends mourned the loss of the 28-year old ski guide. Located at a height of 2,690 meters, Gulmarg is a popular skiing destination in Kashmir and sees thousands of tourists flock to it every year. Snowfall in the area often shuts down roads and causes hindrance to traffic and vehicular movements in the Himalayan region. Feb 12, 2015

Mumbai, Feb 12 (ANI): U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew has said both India and U.S. could work together to deepen capital markets, combat money laundering and terrorist financing. Lew is in India to attend the fifth U.S.-India Economic and Financial Partnership Dialogue in New Delhi. He recently met Indian business leaders in financial hub Mumbai at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and US-India Business Council Roundtable ahead of the dialogue in Delhi that will focus on capital market reforms and economic policies between the two countries. He added that the entrepreneurial spirit, vibrant private sectors, and commitment to economic growth and job creation are the cornerstones of the U.S.-India economic relationship.
