IMF chief amps up call to boost global growth as risks increase

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde turned up the volume on her calls for stronger action by the worlds economies to boost growth, warning that downside risks were increasing without decisive action. In a speech at Frankfurts Goethe University on 5 April, Lagarde prescribed specific moves, including for the United States to raise its minimum wage, for Europe to improve job training and for emerging economies to cut fuel subsidies and boost social spending. She said recovery from the 2007-2009 global financial crisis remains too slow, too fragile and risks to its durability are increasing. Apr 5, 2016

British double agent Kim Philby detailed his life of betrayal and the ease with which he was able to pass secrets to his Soviet controllers in newly-discovered video footage broadcast by the BBC on 4 April. Philby was one of the Soviet Unions most successful spies who penetrated the heart of the British establishment and passed secrets back to Moscow for three decades, part of a ring of British double agents recruited in the 1930s. Burglar hides beneath kid’s duvet to carry out burglary

Counties Manukau Police released footage on 4 April, showing an unidentified man hiding beneath a child’s duvet as he burgled a house in the Auckland suburb of Dannemora, New Zealand. Refugee crisis: First group of deported asylum seekers arrives in Turkey

The first group of refugees sent back from the Greek Island of Lesbos were brought to the Turkish town of Dikili on 4 April, under a controversial deal aimed at stopping the influx of refugees and migrants into Europe.
