By-Poll Results: BJP suffers humiliating defeat in UP, Rajasthan; makes debut in WB

New Delhi, Sept 16 (ANI): The BJP suffered a humiliating loss as the by-poll results on 33 Assembly seats and 3 Lok Sabha seats were declared on Tuesday. The saffron party even failed to retain most of the seats where it was infallible sometimes back. The BJP suffered a jolt in Rajasthan winning just one of the four seats. The BJP had to face further embarrassment in Modi's turf of Gujarat, being forced to concede one more seat to the Congress, bringing the total tally in the 9 assembly seats to BJP: 6, Congress: 3. The Samajwadi Party stormed ahead by winning 8 seats in UP by-polls. There was some reason to cheer for the BJP, which made its debut in West Bengal by winning one seat in the Basirhat Dakshin constituency. Reacting over this, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that the by polls were contested on local issues; they shouldn't be seen in national context. Sep 16, 2014

The amount has been donated by Public Sector Undertakings from the Steel and Mining sectors. New Delhi, Sep 16 (ANI): At a time when Jammu and Kashmir is battling the worst floods in nearly six decades, and the Centre and the state government are trying their best to provide relief to the flood-hit victims, separatist leaders are creating huge problems in rescue operations and distribution of relief materials. A video of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Yasin Malik surfaced on Monday in which he allegedly asked voluntary relief workers not to distribute food items, as only JKLF can operate in that particular area. Malik and his team later looted the relief materials and boats of aid workers and started distributing the items among the victims. The inhuman act of separatists is not limited to distribution of relief materials but they also threatened patients to avoid Army assistance despite strong protests by the locals. New Delhi, Sep 16 (ANI): A Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation probe in the land deals of Robert Vadra. A PIL was filed seeking probe into the sale of agriculture land to Vadra's companies. The petitioner was seeking a probe by the CBI under charges of cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and Prevention of Corruption Act. He claimed that this is a scam worth Rs 20,000 crore. The petitioner in the case said that the case will be taken to the Supreme Court for further hearing. Sep 16, 2014

Vietnam, Sep 16 (ANI): Invoking "common heritage" with Vietnam, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee gifted an offshoot of the holy 'Bodhi' tree to Vietnam counterpart Truong T?n Sang and planted it in Vietnam's Presidential palace after the two leaders finished delegation-level talks and signed seven pacts. The sapling was carried in a small wooden box as a gift to the country and people of Vietnam. It was procured from the Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) a few days back.
