Indo-Bangladesh border troops exchange Diwali sweets with fervor

Akhaura, Oct 23 (ANI): As goodwill gesture on the occasion of Diwali, the paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), stationed along the India-Bangladesh border at Akhaura exchanged sweets with their counterparts. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of BSF, BS Tolia, gave sweets boxes to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) official Saifur, while greeting them on the occasion of Diwali to be celebrated on Thursday. He also extended his greetings to all the residents of Bangladesh on behalf of the BSF. The gesture was equally reciprocated by BGB officials and jawans. Troopers of both sides hugged each other and shook hands. BGB official, Saifur, said that exchange of sweets bridges the gaps and bring both sides closer. Oct 23, 2014

Canada's Parliament attacked, one suspect dead

Ottawa, Oct 23 (ANI): A gunman attacked Canada's parliament where Prime Minister Stephen Harper was speaking. The gunman was shot dead inside the main building of Ottawa's Parliament Hill in Canada and Harper was safely removed from the parliament. The incident took place after a soldier was reportedly shot and wounded at the Canadian War Memorial nearby. Police and tactical teams have secured the area, and Parliament is in lockdown. According to the reports, the shooter was chased by police into the main parliament building called Centre Block where at least 30 shots were fired. Tosa Maidan, also known as the 'King of Meadows', is situated in the Pir Panjal range in Budgam district. Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, said that the Army's lease for the field firing range in Tosa Maidan in Budgam district will not be renewed. Tosa Maidan was leased to Indian Army for setting up a firing range in 1964. Named 'Operation Fallah' the Army has totally cleared off the unexploded shells and transformed the Tosa Maidan into a clear zone of meadows and forested area within a record time span of three months.
