BJP slams SP govt for banning VHP's 'Sankalp Diwas' yatra

New Delhi, Oct 18 (ANI): BJP leader Prakash Javadekar on Friday accused the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) Government in Uttar Pradesh of engaging in what it called the worst kind of votebank politics by banning the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's proposed 'Sankalp Diwas' yatra. Talking to mediapersons in New Delhi, he said that the ban imposed by the UP government was incorrect and BJP condemns it. Meanwhile, Police has so far arrested around 340 people.

Govt should take swift action in AgustaWestland deal: JD (U)

New Delhi, Oct 18 (ANI): After Swiss authorities arrested alleged middleman Guido Ralph Haschke, on charges of bribery, in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal, the JD (U) on Friday stated that the central government must now act swiftly as the people of the country are fed up with the reports of scam after scam. US ship detention: Probe if there is procedural violation or something more substantive, says Defenc

New Delhi, Oct 18 (ANI): Responding to the arrest of all the 35 members on board the US ship Seaman Guard Ohio from Tuticorin, Defence Analyst Uday Bhaskar said that probe should be carried on to find whether there is procedural violation or something more substantive in the aforesaid case. Maoist kills three policemen in Gadchiroli

Gadchiroli, Oct 18 (ANI): At least three security personnel were killed in a landmine blast following a gun battle with Maoists in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. The Maoist attack took place on Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border on Thursday. The Maoists planted a landmine and triggered a blast which was followed by an exchange of fire between the special action group and Maoists. Speaking to the mediapersons, the Superintendent of Police, Suvez Haque said that the police personnel bravely fought the Maoists. The bodies of the slain security personnel were brought to Gadchiroli where they were cremated with full service and state honours.

US ship detention: All 35 crew members arrested

Tuticorin, Oct 18 (ANI): All 35 crew members of US-based ship, identified as MV Seaman Guard Ohio, carrying weapons without permit have been arrested by Tamil Nadu police. The ship was was intercepted and detained by the Indian Coast Guard about 15 nautical miles east of Tuticorin on Saturday. The Q branch was probing into the case. Earlier, the Home Ministry asked the Tamil Nadu government to probe into the case and submit a report to the Centre on the purpose of the ship treading into Indian waters.

Bihar: Seven killed in Maoist landmine blast

Aurangabad/Patna, Oct 18 (ANI): At least seven people were killed when Maoists blew up a vehicle by triggering a landmine blast in the rebel-infested Aurangabad district of Bihar. Top brass of Bihar Police confirmed this tragic incident while speaking to reporters in Patna. He said senior police officers had rushed to the spot with additional forces to launch combing-cum-search operation to nab the ultras. Efforts were underway to ascertain the identity of the other victims.

Sankalp yatra: Security beefed up in Ayodhya, ban on SMS

Lucknow/ Ayodhya, Oct 18 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh government has beefed up security in railway stations and has put a ban on SMS in Ayodhya to clamp down on Vishwa Hindu Parishad's (VHP) 'Sankalp Sabha' scheduled for Friday, according to an official. Officials said strict vigil was being kept on movement of people to Ayodhya and all borders to Faizabad were sealed on Thursday. Earlier, more than 1200 people across the state have been placed under preventive arrest.

New Delhi, Oct 18 (ANI): After SP government in UP denied permission to carry out 'Sankalp Diwas yatra' by VHP, the party's Spokesperson Prakash Sharma asked the SP government if Hindus have no rights even to carry out a peaceful religious rally and said that it should give reason of the ban on the same. Further, Sharma confirmed that the yatra will be organized on Friday even after hurdles created by the UP government and that the saints and members of the VHP are ready to die in the name of God. Sharma also confirmed that the members will take pledge on the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Unnao: ASI begins excavation for gold hunt

Unnao, Oct 18 (ANI): The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Friday began excavating the remains of former King Ram Bux Singh's dilapidated fort in Unnao district of UP to verify claims made by a seer that nearly 1,000 tonnes of gold is buried here. The work by ASI began days after local seer Shobhan Sarkar dreamt of the invaluable gold treasure hidden in those ruins. The residents of the area seemed confident of hidden treasure in the premises of fort as they stressed that whatever Sarkar has predicted till date is found to be true. Speaking to reporters, they also said that earlier some villagers found gold in the fort premises as this region was historically a domain of kings.

India seeks Hungary's support for seat in Nuclear Suppliers Group

New Delhi, Oct 18 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has sought his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban's support for New Delhi's full membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group. The United States, Britain, France are among countries pushing for allowing India - a growing market for such commerce - to join the 48-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), a move that would boost the Asian nation's status as an atomic power. But many countries worry about the implications for wider efforts to prevent the spread of atomic bombs if India were to enter the group, keeping in view that it has refused to sign global anti-nuclear weapons pact. Further Manmohan Singh said both India and Hungary have agreed to create a global normative framework, as it poses a common threat to modern democratic societies.
