SC refuses to stop media from reporting on cases against Asaram

New Delhi, Oct 21 (ANI): In a major setback for self-styled godman Asaram, the Supreme Court on Monday refused to restrain media from reporting cases of sexual assault filed against him and his absconding son Narayan Sai. However, the apex court cautioned the media to responsibly report criminal cases involving Asaram and his son. The apex court also directed the media to avoid sensationalizing and present facts related to the cases involving the godman and his family members. The apex court passed the order in response to a plea moved by the godman seeking a Supreme Court ban on media reporting cases against him and his son.

Coalgate: Gurudas Dasgupta takes on PMO, says Govt in grip of corporates

New Delhi, Oct 21 (ANI): CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta on Monday said that crime and criminality will run in the country and corruption will continue if investigating agencies have no independence. Dasgupta, who was responding to media reports of the CBI mulling the option of closing the Coalgate case against Kumar Mangalam Birla, said that the closure of case against Birla will set a dangerous precedent. Dasgupta was also critical of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) strong defence of the allocation of the Talabira II coal block to Hindalco. The CPI (M) leaders also criticized the UPA Ministers for raising their concerns following the case against Birla in the coal scam case, and said the government is now in the grip of the corporates.

Pakistan denies access to foreign aid agencies in quake-affected Balochistan

Quetta, Oct 21: A 7.7 magnitude quake struck Balochistan province on September 24 followed by a similar magnitude earthquake four days later. Official figures say 376 people died and 200,000 had their lives disrupted. But, the locals claim that over 1,000 people have died. Pakistan authorities failed to provide food, shelter and medicine to those survived in Awaran, the epicenter of the disaster.

Govt should look for other options if Pak continues to violate ceasefire: Omar

Srinagar, Oct 21 (ANI): Reacting over the continuous ceasefire violations by the Pakistan in the recent times, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday asked the Central government to explore other options if Pakistan troops continue to violate ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB). Addressing people in Srinagar, Omar also questioned Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's silence on the issue and asked whether these ceasefire violations are taking place at the order of Pak PM or because he does not have any control over the prevailing situation. New Delhi, Oct 21 (ANI): The Congress led UPA government has decided to introduce the Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill in the Winter Session of Parliament. Talking to mediapersons in New Delhi, Minority Affairs Minister K Rehman Khan said that it’s the UPA government’s commitment to bring this bill. After the recent violence in Muzaffarnagar, Rahman Khan shot off a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to bring the Bill in the House at the earliest opportunity. The legislation defines communal and targeted violence and imposes a penalty on public servants for negligence of duty. It also strengthens the rights of the victim in the criminal justice system and envisages a national standard for all affected people.

India reiterates its stand on Kashmir, rejects any 3rd country's intervention

New Delhi, Oct 21 (ANI): Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Monday said that India will not allow any 'third' country, to intervene in its row with Pakistan on the long disputed border issue of Kashmir. Shinde was attending a ceremony on Police Commemoration Day in New Delhi on Monday. Rejecting the demand of Pakistan's Prime Minister for a US intervention, Shinde, said that New Delhi will not let anyone to interfere in the Kashmir issue. Pakistan's Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif who is on a three-day official visit to Washington, raked up the intervention of US to resolve the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan.
