FPS title Far Cry 4 from Ubisoft, which was recently revealed to be arriving on stores in late 2014, will have an Indian named Ajay Ghale as its protagonist, according to a leak that gives away the synopsis of the plot.
The leak on a pre-order page on Ubisoft's Uplay Store, revealed information on Far Cry 4's plot. The page has been removed since the leak but it is now reverted to Uplay Store homepage. But that did not stop Reddit users as Only Single Player was able to copy the synopsis. (READ: Far Cry 4: Rumored Animals in the Himalayan Kingdom)
Here is the complete synopsis that was leaked:
"Hidden in the majestic Himalayas lies Kyrat, a country steeped in tradition and violence. You are Ajay Ghale. Traveling to Kyrat to fulfill your mother's dying wish, you find yourself caught up in a civil war to overthrow the oppressive regime of dictator Pagan Min."
"Explore and navigate this vast open world, where danger and unpredictability lurk around every corner. Here, every decision counts, and every second is a story. Welcome to Kyrat."
Ubisoft has also stated that the antagonist in the game will not be a white, despite the recently released box art shows him as white. Now, the name of the protagonist - Ajay Ghale - suggests that he must be a Nepali Hindu, as the first name is common in India and Ghale is an ethnic Nepali name.
Previously in Far Cry 2, there was an Indian-Mauritian character named Quarbani Singh, Metro noted.
Meanwhile, there has been controversy over the box art for Far Cry 4, which shows a white man sitting on some sort of a throne with his hand on top of the head a dark-skinned man, whose hands are tied up and has a grenade in them. The white man strikes a triumphant pose on the ruins of the throne, with the grenade's pin on his finger, while the dark man is on his knee, looking down.
The box art has generated enough criticism from people who label it as racist, prompting Alex Hutchinson, creative director at Ubisoft, to reply.
"Just so it's clear for those jumping to conclusions: He's not white and that's not the player," tweeted Hutchinson. He also provided link to a report on GamesIndustry.
Far Cry 4 is set to release on 18 November in North America and 21 November in Europe for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStatopm 3 and PC. (READ: Far Cry 4 will Release in November; Reveals Himalayan Setting)
