Pongal 2014 seems to offer a big treat for all Tamil cinema lovers.
Films of Tamil cinema industry's biggest stars are expected to clash at the box office in January, around Pongal festival.
Earlier, it was reported that Ajith's "Veeram" and Vijay's "Jilla" will have a Pongal release next year. Latest buzz doing the rounds is that Rajinikanth's "Kochadaiiyaan" and Kamal Haasan's "Vishwaroopam 2" might join the Pongal race.
"Kochadaiiyaan" has reportedly been scheduled to release on 12 December, which happens to be Rajinikanth's birthday. But speculations are rife that the film's release might be pushed to January. [Update: "Kochadaiiyaan" audio in December, Film to Release Tentatively on 10 January, 2014]
Similarly, Kamal Haasan's "Vishwaroopam 2" which was expected to release in November, might get delayed further and release in early January. Buzz is that the most-awaited films might end up clashing at the box office around the time of Pongal.
Interestingly, "Veeram" and "Jilla" makers have reportedly fixed the film's release for the harvest festival. This could mean that four biggies will be battling against each other at the box office.
However, it is not possible to release four big films around the same time as there would be a big battle for screens. Buzz is that Kamal and Rajinikanth might push their film's release date further. Republic Day seems to be the ideal time to release a couple of films. It may be recalled that Kamal's spy thriller "Vishwaroopam" was released in January this year. The actor might consider the same release date next year for his sequel "Vishwaroopam 2".
It is not clear if Rajini will allow his film to be released alongside Kamal's film, considering that the actors are good friends. But one is thing is for sure; January 2014 will definitely witness some fireworks at the box office.
