It looks like Tata Motors has got it all right when comes to its sedan Zest. In October, it was reported that the Tata Zest overtook the Honda Amaze in the segment in the first month of its launch.
With the sales figures of November out, it looks like Tata Zest has once again pulled ahead in its battle with Amaze, selling 3,835 units of the Zest -- a 9% month-on-month sales increase. Meanwhile, Honda's sedan Amaze's sales stood at 3,310 units, posting a month-on-month decline of 5%.
The latest figures issued by the car makers indicate that Tata Zest continues its amazing run on the Indian roads eating into the market share of Honda Amaze, its closest competitor.
If in October, the sales margin between Zest and Amaze were marginal, the November sales paint a different picture altogether. Tata Motors sold 525 units of Zest, far outstripping Honda Amaze.
Earlier, the primary sales were attributed to the launch euphoria. But with the increase in demand for the second month in row, indications are that there are other factors as well working in favour of Zest.
Launched on 12 August, Tata Zest sedan is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options in the country. Under the hood, the petrol model of Zest packs turbocharged 1.2-litre Revotron engine, which is tuned to produce a 90PS (88.73bhp) of power and 140nm of torque. The Zest diesel model comes with 1.3-litre multijet motor that is capable of churning out 88.8bhp of power and 200nm torque.
However, in November, Honda India's overall sales ended on a good note with the company posting a growth of 64% in its domestic sales. Last month, Honda had sold 15,263 units against the 9,332 sold in the corresponding period in 2013. The company also registered an overall growth of 46% during April-November, at 1, 16,705 units as opposed to 80,163 units during the same period last year.
