The Hindi version of Yash's KGF: Chapter 1 has kept the cash registers ringing at the Indian box office on the weekdays, while Shah Rukh Khan's Zero hit the rock bottom and made a poor collection.
Both the movies had a good amount of promotion and hype before they hit the screens. But Zero had a few advantages over the Hindi version of KGF: Chapter 1. The latter is a dubbed film and its hero did not have much fan following in north India, which is the hub of Hindi speaking community. Hence, many thought that the dubbed film could not be able to stand the wave of SRK mania.
Shah Rukh Khan and Yash's movies were released in 4,380 and 1,500 screens, respectively, on December 21. Zero opened to decent response and made a good collection at the domestic box office on the first day. On the other hand, the Hindi version of KGF: Chapter 1 made an average collection on the opening day.
The Anand L Rai-directed movie garnered mixed talk and the word of mouth took a toll on its collection over the weekend. Zero witnessed a steep decline in its numbers on Monday. It showed some amount of growth on Christmas holiday (Tuesday), but it was not up to the expected mark. Its collection went on falling on Wednesday and Thursday.
Zero has collected Rs 98.07 crore net at the Indian box office in the first week and it has failed to cross Rs 100 crore mark in seven days, despite having huge hype and promotion. Rs 20.14 crore on Friday, Rs 18.22 crore on Saturday, Rs 20.71 crore on Sunday, Rs 9.50 crore on Monday, Rs 12.75 crore on Tuesday, Rs 8.75 crore on Wednesday and Rs 8 crore on Thursday.
On the other hand, KGF: Chapter 1 received positive talk and the word of mouth helped it show decent growth over the weekend. The movie surprised everyone by collecting more on a weekday than its first-day business. The film has managed to brave the wave of the Shah Rukh Khan starrer.
The Hindi version of KGF: Chapter 1 has collected Rs 21.45 crore net at the Indian box office in the first week. Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#KGF consolidated and cemented its status with each passing day... Strong word of mouth has translated into BO numbers... Fri 2.10 cr, Sat 3 cr, Sun 4.10 cr, Mon 2.90 cr, Tue 4.35 cr, Wed 2.60 cr, Thu 2.40 cr. Total: ₹ 21.45 cr. India biz. Note: HINDI version."
