Bollywood release "Zanjeer" has witnessed a continuous fall in its collections at the box office. The action thriller has raked in only ₹13.35 crore from India.
"#Zanjeer *Hindi version* Fri 3.58 cr, Sat 2.89 cr, Sun 3.69 cr, Mon 2.01 cr, Tue 1.18 cr. Total: ₹13.35 cr nett," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film, starring south actor Ram Charan Teja and Priyanka Chopra, has turned out to be the biggest disaster of the year, after Ajay Devgn's "Himmatwala".
"Zanjeer", costing around ₹75 crore, has raked in only ₹13 crore from its five-day run. The film was released in more than 2,000 screens, but compared to "Shuddh Desi Romance" the film bombed at the box office.
"Shuddh Desi Romance" (SDR) was also released on the same day, but it managed to rake in more than double the amount from the box office in five days. The domestic total of "SDR" stands at ₹31 crore.
The Tamil version of "Zanjeer", titled "Thoofan", is doing much better at the overseas and domestic box offices.
"Zanjeer was made with a huge budget but it opened to disastrous numbers over the weekend. It is the lowest opening for a big film this year. It would have covered around Rs 12 crore over four days. The film was released across 2,400 screens pan India. It could be tagged as the biggest flop of the year. Shuddh Desi Romance is a fresh tale. Made on a shoestring budget, it had a limited release of just 1,100 screens. Producer Aditya Chopra has a hit on his hand," trade analyst Amod Mehra said, according to Mid-Day.
