ZAGG's ifrogz Carbide headphone has been made available in select markets, including the U.S. ($42.92) and India (Rs. 3,125).
We got our hands on the headphone and during our testing, it was able to impress in several aspects like design language, build grade and audio quality, to an extent. Here's our take on the ZAGG's ear-on headphone.
Look and feel:
ZAGG's ifrogz Carbide not only boasts an eye pleasing design, but is also ergonomic in structure. It comes with expandable headband and sits comfortably on the skull and aligns well with the earlobes, no matter what size the users head is, and it is super lightweight.
Though it is made of plastic, ifrogz Carbide's build quality is of top notch. The ear-cups look glossy on the outside, while its innards are covered by leather. On the top, the headband is covered by sturdy plastic with rubbery matte finish, exuding premium feel.
User-experience:
We tested ZAGG ifrogz Carbide with metal, hip-pop, blues and other genres of music. It's 40mm driver succeeds in delivering distortion-less music to the ears.
The use of soft leather pads below the headband and on the ear-cups makes listening on the Carbide headphones a delightful experience. We also noticed that the Carbide has got very good uni-directional sound circulation system and does not leak sound out of the pads from back side.
Though leather-pad provides a cushion effect, it does not absorb sweat, which is kind of problematic, especially in a tropical region like India. Users can get best experience out of the ifrogz Carbide in well ventilated rooms, and if travelling, it is advisable to sit near windows.
It also comes with nylon-based sturdy audio cord with inbuilt mic and multi-functional button. Users can play/pause tracks and also take call when connected to the phone.
During our testing, it worked seamlessly on Apple iPod, Android smartphone and Windows 10-powered Laptop.
Verdict (4/5):
For its price, ZAGG ifrogz Carbide is a fantastic piece of headphone. Funky design language is the highlight of this gadget and is certain to find traction among youths, who are looking to make a style statement.
