Micromax's online subsidiary, YU Televentures, is going to upgrade its entire smartphone line-up this year. The YU founder and CEO, Rahul Sharma, on Monday confirmed that the company will be launching successors to the popular Yureka, Yunique and Yutopia smartphones this year.
According to a Gadgets360 report, the new smartphones will follow the existing naming scheme, which means the Yureka successor will be called Yureka 2, Yunique 2 will succeed YU Yunique and finally, the Yutopia 2 will wear the 2016 flagship crown. Sharma did not reveal further details about the handsets.
With new phones in the offing, there have been some concerns regarding YU's exclusive partnership with Cyanogen, which was nullified by Lenovo as it would be offering the popular custom ROM in its ZUK Z1 smartphone. It is unclear if the new YU smartphones would run CM ROM or stock Android.
Although Sharma's confirmation about the upcoming YU phones should put speculations aside, there have been rumours about the successors for quite some time now. Last week, Sharma teased the launch of the new flagship, which he expects will break records.
"The new handset will break records, it will break the conventional, it will break the rules...WAIT, it will break the flagships," Sharma said in a message with a teaser video.

Also, another YU smartphone was spotted on a benchmark site and on Zauba, India's import/export website, which many believe is the Yureka successor. Assuming the extracted information is accurate, the Yureka 2, codenamed Yu5200, would sport a 5.2-inch full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB storage, 13MP primary camera and a 5MP front snapper.

Little is known about the ultra-affordable YU Yunique's successor, but it is certain that it will boast upgraded features to woo consumers with limited budget for a new smartphone. Sharma has only given a vague timeline and we could see the launch of the three new YU phones happen at different times, like it did with the current models.
