YU Televentures Ltd, a subsidiary of Micromax, launched Yureka Plus--its new smartphone--in India on Monday. The new YU phablet is an upgraded version of the company's first device Yureka, which was unveiled in December 2014.
Yureka Plus costs around Rs 9,999, Rs 1,000 more than its predecessor. To provide a better perspective between the Yureka siblings, we have the key features of the devices.
Display and build quality:
Micromax Yureka sports 5.5-inch HD (1280x720p) display with a pixel density of 267 ppi (pixels per inch) and is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 shield and polycarbonate cover.
In terms of visual appearance, Yureka Plus looks identical to its predecessors. Yet, it boasts a better display and protective cover gear. It sports full HD (1920x1080p) display having the pixel density of 401 ppi. It also comes with Gorilla Glass 3 shield.
The model boasts sturdier polycarbonate shell with a reinforced casing, which can survive accidental drops.
Company founder Rahul Sharma has posted a Yureka Plus extreme drop-test video. It shows Sharma practically throwing and kicking the phone around floors. He also drops it from a height of four feet, then nine feet and finally the handset is dropped from a building with a height of more than 70 feet. The phone does break, with battery, cover and the display getting separated.
But once he put those parts back together, the phone started working, except the top-right corner of the display region.

Processor, RAM and Storage capacity:
In this aspect, both the siblings house the same hardware. They come packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa-core SoC (System on Chip), 2GBRAM and a 16GB inbuilt storage. They also come with an option for expanding up to 32GB via microSD card.
Camera:
There is not much difference between Yureka and its Plus variant. They both house a 13MP camera with Sony Exmor RS sensors, but vary in the versions. The former features IMX 135 sensor, whereas the latter comes with IMX214 sensor.
Other similarities include Blue-lens architecture, five-physical element lens, f/2.2 aperture, 75.4 degree wide-angle, full HD (1080p) resolution recording, LED flash.
And on the front, they feature a 5.0-megapixel camera with 71-degree angle lens, 1.4 micron pixel size, Largan Blue Lens architecture.
Battery:
Both the Yureka and its Plus variant come packed with 2,500 mAh (Lithium-Polymer). Since the latter features full HD display, the talk time and standby time gets reduced to eight hours and 210 hours respectively.
Whereas, the 5.5-inch HD screen based Yureka users enjoy up to 15 hours of talk time and close to 210 hours standby time.
Mobile Operating System:
Yu' new Yureka Plus runs on the Cyanogen OS 12 based on the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. The company has also reportedly fixed several bugs, which affected its predecessor.
1st Gen Yureka runs on the Cyanogen OS 11 based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat out-of-the box. The company released the Cyanogen OS 12 series OS update back in April, but they are still some glitches in the firmware, which are affecting the phone's performance. YU has promised to roll-out the new Cyanogen OS 12.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop with camera app updates very soon.
