If you have been waiting for the right time to buy YU's Yuphoria smartphone, here's a great opportunity. On Monday, Amazon India listed the widely-popular smartphone at a discounted price of Rs 6,499, which is Rs 500 less than the handset's original price of Rs 6,999. The discount on the handset also follows another major change on the software front. Yuphoria now runs on stock Android 5.1 Lollipop instead of Cyanogen OS 12.
Previously, all YU smartphones ran the popular Cyanogen OS. But the popular trend was rested when the company launched its ultra-affordable Yunique smartphone last month with stock Android. It looks like the company is slowly moving away from Cyanogen to stock Android.
Last week, YU updated its Yureka Plus smartphone with stock Android at a discounted price of Rs 8,999, which is a generous Rs 1,000 price cut announced in August. The handset's listing on Amazon India shows that it runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat but is upgradeable to Android 5.1 Lollipop.
"Today we introduced the new batch of Yureka Plus on Android. Yureka Plus with pure Android experience will now be available through an Open sale on Amazon.in starting 1, October, 2015. This is in line with the feedback received from our consumers, who wanted a pure Android experience as well. We will also make YUPHORIA available with Android in the coming week, thereby offering a seamless experience," YU had said in an email statement.
"At the same time, we remain committed to strengthen our partnership with Cyanogen, and offer a customised experience to our consumers. We will be rolling out the next Cyanogen update for existing YU users by the end of this month, which is currently under beta testing with the community," the company said in response to YU's relationship with Cyanogen.
The YU lineup is pretty impressive and offers great value for money. The Yuphoria smartphone features a five-inch HD IPS display with Gorilla Glass 3 and powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core chip, Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB DDR3 RAM. YU Yuphoria packs an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and an impressive 5MP front snapper. It supports 4G LTE and features Cirrus Logic Wolfson Stereo DCA audio chip for better sound quality.
