YU Televentures, the online-only sub-brand of Micromax, is expanding its smartphone portfolio by upgrading its best-sellers from the past. Shortly after the launch of Yureka S, the India-based firm quietly listed the successor of YU Yunique, the Yunique Plus, on its official website.
The availability of YU Yunique Plus is unknown, but the handset's full specifications and price details are out. The company, however, is expected to launch the budget smartphone soon. YU had launched the Yunique smartphone last year with an attractive price tag of Rs. 4,999 and specs that more than justify the cost. The Yunique Plus is identical to its predecessor, with the only change being its RAM capacity and the price.
YU Yunique Plus is priced at Rs. 6,499, which is in line with several popular phones in the market, such as Lenovo Vibe K5, Moto E, Swipe Elite Plus and Coolpad Mega. For the extra Rs. 1,500 as compared to the original Yunique model, the Plus variant offers twice the RAM size at 2GB. Rest of the specs remains unchanged.
All the admired elements of the Yunique are seen in the Yunique Plus. It has the same sleek polycarbonate body with symmetrical design, Saturn rings and 3-element keys. The Yunique Plus features a 4.7-inch HD display with 1280x720 pixels and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, an 8MP rear-facing camera with LED flash and a 2MP front-facing wide angle lens for selfies.
YU's Yunique Plus is powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, Adreno 306 GPU for graphics, 2GB RAM and 8GB expandable memory up to 32GB. In our review of the Yunique smartphone, we found the handset quite capable of handling regular tasks and so adding extra RAM to the handset and re-launching it at a higher price is a decision that's hard to fathom.

The similarities between the Yunique and Yunique Plus are uncanny. The new handset also features the same Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and a 2,000mAh battery. By comparison, the Indian smartphone market has matured and Yunique Plus faces stiff competition from its rivals. Lenovo Vibe K5 and Coolpad Mega 2.5D, for instance, offer better camera, faster processor, a bigger battery and the latest software at the same price.
