Ajith's "Yennai Arindhaal" has done good business on the opening day at domestic box office. The Tamil movie has grossed ₹14.05 crore on the first day in India.
"Yennai Arindhaal" has grossed ₹10.80 (₹8.31 crore nett) in Tamil Nadu, ₹1.60 crore (₹1.32 crore) in Kerala, ₹1.35 crore(₹1.04 crore) in Karnataka and ₹30 lakh (₹23 lakh) from rest of India to take its total gross to ₹14.05 crore on the first day in India, according to Andhra Box Office. The total gross collection of the movie is expected to be somewhere between ₹17-18 crore.
However, "Yennai Arindhaal" has failed to beat the records of some of the big recent movies like Rajinikanth's "Lingaa" (₹18.3 crore from Tamil version), Vijay's "Kaththi" (₹17 crore) and Vikram's "I" (₹15.1 crore from Tamil version). But it has surpassed the collection of Surya's "Anjaan" (₹10.08 from Tamil version).
The holiday weekend played a major role in the success of Surya's "Anjaan" (four-day Independence Day weekend), Vijay's "Kaththi" (five-day Diwali weekend) and Vikram's "I" (five-day Pongal weekend). But "Yennai Arindhaal" is a non-holiday release and considering this, the performance of the film at collection centres is appreciable.
Meanwhile, "Yennai Arindhaal" has done exceptionally well at international circuits too. The Gautham Menon's movie has performed well in the US and Malaysia.
In the US, the Tamil movie has minted $113,232 (approx ₹69 lakh) from 75 screens. It has reportedly broken the record of Ajith's previous movie "Arrambam". Trade analysts are now curiously waiting to see whether Ajith starrer film breaks "Arrambam" life-time record of 380k$ or not.
Ajith Kumar, Trisha Krishnan and Anushka Shetty starrer "Yennai Arindhaal" has done a pre-business of ₹64.75 crore. Producer AM Rathnam earned ₹35 crore by selling Tamil Nadu theatrical rights, ₹2.40 crore from Kerala rights, ₹2.25 crore from Karnataka rights and ₹60 lakh from rest of India. The satellite and audio rights have earned ₹15.5 crore.
