"Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", which completed its third week, has made quite a good impression at the box office. The romantic film became the third highest grosser in India after "3 Idiots" and "Ek Tha Tiger".
Within two days of its release "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" shattered records of several films that stars Bollywood biggies like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh and others.
But will it break Aamir Khan's "3 Idiots" record which is maintaining a top position since 2009.
Several hits films including "Ek Tha Tiger", "Jab Tak Hai Jaan", "Dabangg 2" and others have made it big at the box office, but not even a single film managed to break the record of "3 Idiots". [Check out the list of Bollywood's highest grosser film here]
Salman's 2012 film "Ek Tha Tiger" came very close to smashing the record but it fell short of achieving the ₹200 crore feat in the Indian market.
Now, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" is expected to cross the mark and gain top position.
Due to new releases, the numbers of screens have declined drastically but it has not affected the collections. "YJHD" was initially released in 3000 screens in India, but after the second week the count declined to 940 across the country, according to reports. Still, the film managed to dominate over other releases in its third week also.
The film which has been declared a blockbuster in India and overseas has raked in a total of ₹168.48 crore after the third weekend. In its first week, the film collected a record breaking ₹107.61 crore, in second week it raked in ₹47.67 crore nett and in the third weekend it minted ₹13.2 crore.
The film is expected to take the third week total to ₹180 - ₹185 crore. At present, it requires around ₹34 crore more to gain the top position and it all depends on its fourth week collection.
The fourth week is pretty crucial for the film because another romantic film "Raanjhanaa" starring Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush is releasing this week. "Raanjhanaa" has already created a pre-release buzz and the advance booking in some circuits in Tamil Nadu is massive.
The romantic film is likely to affect the collections of "YJHD", stopping it from breaking "3 Idiots" record.
