Ayan Mukherji's second directorial film after "Wake Up Sid" has shattered records of several films at the Indian and overseas box offices. The earnings of the film on Friday and Saturday were in the same ₹19 - ₹20 crore range, but Sunday's collection was much better than the the previous two days.
The film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone had collected around ₹62.11 crore in its opening weekend at the domestic box office, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
The three day breakup of the film is: Friday ₹19.45 crore, Saturday ₹20.16 crore and Sunday ₹22.5 crore.
The film, which was released in more than 3,000 screens in India, has created history with a whopping ₹62 crore in its kitty. It has emerged as the biggest opener of 2013, smashing records of "Race 2" which minted ₹51.35 crore in its opening weekend in India.
Also, the film has emerged as Ranbir and Deepika's biggest opener, not only in India, but also overseas.
"YJHD" is the biggest non-holiday opener after Salman Khan's "Dabangg 2".
The collection was exceptionally high in multiplexes especially in circuits like Mumbai and Delhi. The film performed quite well also at single screens.
The overseas collection of "YJHD" is more than ₹19 crore in its opening weekend. The overseas and domestic three day collection total stands at a whopping ₹81.36 crore. The film now requires ₹18.64 crore to touch the ₹100 crore mark.
One of the main reasons why the film is breaking records because it features ex-lovers Ranbir and Deepika. Their chemistry and performance in the film has been appreciated by critics and movie buffs alike.
Apart from the two, the film also features Aditya Roy Kapur, Kalki Koechlin and Kunal Roy Kapur in important roles.
