Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan were the top newsmakers on micro-blogging platform Twitter this year.
Twitter's #YEARONTWITTER report reveals that Shah Rukh's selfie with former One Direction member Zayn Malik at the Asian Awards in London is the 'golden tweet' of 2015.
In April, Twitter India confirmed that Shah Rukh's selfie is the most Retweeted Tweet ever in India. The tweet has more than 143,204 Retweets and 208,437 likes now.
Twitter also revealed the names of top 10 Indians with highest number of followers and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the only politician in the top 10 list, which includes Bollywood celebrities.
Bollywood's megastar Amitabh Bachchan is the most-followed Indian on Twitter with 18.1 million followers. "Dilwale" actor Shah Rukh is the second most-followed Indian on Twitter with 16.5 million followers. Modi was ranked as the third most-followed India. He has 16.4 million followers.
The other Bollywood celebs are Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar and A.R.Rahman.
The popular hashtag trends in India of 2015 are from the fields of sports, entertainment, political and social activism movements. Starting with IPL, it was followed by hashtags SelfieWithDaughter, BiharResults, SaalEkShuruaatAnek (Modi's e-governance and digital diplomacy initiative) and DDLJ20Years (20 years of "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" movie).
