Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Yamaha has been working on the next generation of YZF-R15. The debut and launch of the YZF-R15 Version 3.0 is expected in the H1 of 2017. Emerging reports indicates Yamaha India may bolster its small capacity supersport range with the introduction of the YZF-R25.
The YZF-R25 will be positioned between YZF-R15 and the YZF-R3 while it will be affordable than YZF-R3 reports MotorOctane. It will go up against yosung GT250R, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the Honda CBR250R. The R25 comes loaded with a 250cc liquid-cooled in-line four-stroke two-cylinder engine that can churn out power of 36bhp at 12,000rpm and peak torque of 22.1Nm at 10,000rpm, mated to six-speed transmission. Built on a tubular diamond chassis, the YZF-R25 comes with telescopic suspension at the front and mono suspension in the rear.
In terms of dimensions, Yamaha R25 measures 2,090mm in length, 720mm in width, 1,135mm in height and has a seat height of 780mm. The bike will be brought to the country as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) and going by the rumours, R25 is likely to be priced in the Rs 2.5-3 lakh brackets. The company has reportedly imported few units of the bike for R&D and testing purpose.
On design, the R25 is inspired from the M1, it gets dual headlamps and pilot lamp from the elder sibling. There is an air duct between the front lamps and that is identical to the one on the M1 Moto GP bike.
On the YZF-R15, Yamaha officials have already confirmed the version 3.0 will be a step up in performance, safety. The 149cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that develops 16.7bhp at 8,500rpm and 15Nm of torque at 7,500rpm will continue. However, expect significant jump in power figures. The six-speed transmission will remain unchanged. The styling update is expected to be in line with the R25.
