India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. launched its performance streetbike MT-09 at the Auto Expo 2016 in February and latest reports indicate the Japanese company will start deliveries of the motorcycle next month onwards. The motorcycle's price was announced at the show at Rs 10.20 lakh, ex- showroom Delhi.
Yamaha officials told to ZigWheels at the launch of Saluto RX that the delivery of MT-09 has been scheduled from May. The middleweight naked street bike features a chiseled fuel tank with minimum use of body panels. The street bike is powered by 847cc three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that develops 113bhp at 10,000rpm and 87.5Nm of torque at 8,500rpm mated to six-speed transmission. Yamaha claims the MT-09 has the best power to weight ratio in its class. The motorcycle sports traction control system with two different riding modes.
Built on diamond type frame, the MT-09 is employed with telescopic front forks with 137mm travel, while rear features swingarm (Link type) suspension. The braking is taken care of by 298mm dual disc on front brakes, while the rear gets 245mm single disc brakes. The motorcycle also comes with optional ABS.
To be pitted against Triumph Street Triple and the Kawasaki Z800 in India, the MT-09 is brought to India as Completely Built Up (CBU) units. The MT-09 is the most affordable motorcycle in CBU line of the Japanese bike maker in India.
