Japanese motorcycle maker Yamaha is believed to be back at the drawing table just months after the launch of FZ25, a middle-class, street fighter motorcycle in India earlier this year. If the latest indications are anything to go by, FZ25 bikes will soon have a faired sibling in India. In what is believed to be the earliest hint, a set of spy shots of the faired motorcycle of FZ25 have been doing the rounds on the internet.
This is for the first time that the rumoured Fazer 250 has been caught on camera. The prototype, which shares similarities with its naked sibling FZ25, was spied while undergoing testing on Greater Noida Expressway. Although the images do not give a clear view of the specific changes on the model, the test mule shows semi-fairing at the front and higher-placed handlebar. There seems to be also place for the bigger windscreen.
Fazer 250 is also expected to draw power from 249cc air-cooled 4-stroke 2-valve single-cylinder unit that does duty in FZ25. It develops 19bhp of power at 8,000rpm and maximum torque of 20Nm at 6,000rpm in FZ25.In Fazer 250, the engine may get a slight tweak. The engine is expected to be mated to a five-speed transmission.
Other features of the new Fazer 250 are not known and there is no information on the launch timeframe of the model. Expected to be priced slightly premium over the naked sibling FZ25, the full-faired Yamaha Fazer 250 is expected to feature LED headlamp and disc brakes. It remains to be seen if the maker will also offer the safety feature ABS.
