India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd launched disc brake-equipped version Cygnus Alpha scooter priced at Rs. 52,556, ex-showroom, Delhi. The new disc brake variant will be available in two new colors -- Radiant Cyan and Marvel Black. The drum brake variant of the Cygnus Alpha will also continue to be sold.
The new model features graphics with calligraphy designs for an urban look, according to the company. Mechanically, the Cygnus Alpha remains the same as the existing models. Powered by the same 113cc, single cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled engine with Blue Core technology, the Alpha has the capacity to churn out 7bhp at 7500 rpm and peak torque of 8.1 Nm at 5000rpm. The engine comes mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. The scooter also offers a fuel efficiency of 66kmpl.
"The scooter market has witnessed rapid growth in the last few years and Yamaha has been able to make steady inroad in this segment. Yamaha is looking at reaching a 10% market share by the end of this year and the introduction of this latest variant of the Cygnus Alpha scooter is expected to further propel its growth in the segment. This latest offering with disc brake is aimed at families who want that additional safety feature," said Roy Kurian, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd, in a statement.
In April, Yamaha strengthened its scooter portfolio by introducing the Cygnus Ray-ZR. The scooter has been priced at Rs. 52,000 ex-showroom, Delhi, and it has been developed as a next-generation scooter and features an aggressive design in line with the Honda Dio. Yamaha's scooter portfolio for India currently includes the Alpha, Ray-Z, Ray-ZR and the Fascino.
