Yakub Memon, convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, was hanged at the Nagpur central jail on Thursday (30 July).
Memon was hanged on the day he turned 53 after the Supreme Court rejected his last-minute petition to escape the gallows after the President of India rejected his third mercy plea the previous night.
After the early morning execution, the authorities handed over Memon's body to his family on the condition that it would not be used for any kind of protests, reported the Hindustan Times.
Memon was convicted for financially helping his brother, Tiger Memon, a prime accused in the serials blasts that killed 257 people and left hundreds of others injured.
While citizens stand divided in their opinions whether it was a fair decision to execute Memon, Bollywood celebs too expressed their views on Twitter.
Here's what Bollywood celebs have to say after the convict was hanged:
I agree. The law is final. No one is above it. Yakub has been hanged. Same law for Kodnani & Bajrangi? Yes? No? https://t.co/5RNDeb0sa1

As an Indian: Happy to see the importance given to #Dr.Kalam after his demise. Sad to see the importance given to #Yakub for his demise

Whatever the verdict, in ANY kind of case, it simply shouldn't take 20 years to dispense justice. Period. — atul kasbekar (@atulkasbekar) July 30, 2015
