Yakub Memon was executed on Thursday, 30 July at the Nagpur Central Jail in Maharashtra for his involvement in the Mumbai serial blasts on 12 March 1993 that left at least 257 people dead and over 700 injured.
With the execution, Memon becomes the third offender to be hanged in India in last three years. Mohammad Afzal Guru was executed in 2013, while Ajmal Kasab was hanged to death in 2012.

Mohammad Afzal Guru
In connection with the December 2001 terrorist attack on Indian Parliament, Afzal Guru was given death sentence and was secretly hanged at Tihar Central Jail in Delhi on 9 February 2013. Guru was arrested after investigators found his involvement in helping the terrorists in New Delhi.
Ajmal Kasab, a Pakistani militant and member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba was hanged to death on 21 November 2012 at Pune's Yerwada Jail for his involvement in 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008. He was found guilty of many charges, including murder, waging war against India and carrying explosives, among others.
Dhananjoy Chatterjee
Chatterjee, who worked as a security guard, was executed for killing and raping 18-year-old Hetal Parekh at her apartment in Bhowanipur, Kolkata. The incident happened on 5 March, 1990, and after spending almost 14 years in prison, Chatterjee was hanged to death on 14 August 2004 at Alipore Central Jail in Kolkata.
Auto Shankar
Gowri Shankar aka Auto Shankar, a serial killer hailing from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, was found guilty in six murder cases that were committed between 1988 and 1989. He was sentenced to death on 31 May 1991 and was hanged at Salem Central Prison on 27 April 1995.
