While most of the major Indian smartphone manufacturers have remained tight lipped on the Android Lollipop OTA update rollout on their existing smartphones, Xolo, sub-brand of Lava Mobile, has confirmed that the OS update will roll out for their One smartphone from 16 January.
Though named One, the smartphone is not a part of Google's Android One platform.
The Xolo One was launched in October last year for ₹6,599 to compete with the existing budget Android smartphones available in the country. However, after a price cut, the Xolo One is currently available at ₹5,499 in the country through several e-commerce websites like Flipkart and Amazon.
Powered by a Quad-Core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6528M SoC with Mali 400 MP2 GPU, the Xolo One features 1 GB RAM and 8GB worth ROM memory with a microSD card slot for additional memory extension up to 32GB. The dual SIM smartphone also features a 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS display with 480x854 pixels resolutions. Additionally the Xolo One also features a 5MP rear camera, 0.3MP front camera and packs a 1,700 mAh battery.
Significantly, only Nexus smartphones and few selected models of Motorola have received the Lollipop update in India until now. Though Spice Mobile has earlier confirmed to roll out the Lollipop update for their Android One smartphone Dream Uno, it has not been available yet. Other Google Android One smartphones are also yet to taste the sweetness of Lollipop's material interface and few other significant updates.
Following the release, Xolo is expected to receive a significant sales boost with the One smartphone and their other budget smartphones available in the market.
