Xiaomi mentioned that the upcoming event won't be like its earlier launch events, rather it would be a global phone premiere through which they will be launching their new smartphone globally. The official Mi India page has also posted details of company executives who will be present at the launch. Along with Xiaomi Global VP, Hugo Barra, the president and co-founder of Xiaomi, Bin Lin, and the CEO and founder Lei Jun will be attending the event.
The list teases that Xiaomi might be unveiling a new phone and probably it will focus on the mid- budget segment, wooing customers with a flagship-level specification handset.
The event will take place on 23 April, 2.30 PM at Siri Fort, Asian Village Complex, New Delhi.
According to past rumours, Xiaomi was supposed to unveil its Mi4 successor MI5 smartphone which is supposed to offer almost identical specifications seen inside the recently-launched flagship phablet Mi Note.
The rumours had suggested that Xiaomi Mi5 might boast of a 5.0/5.5-inch QHD display with 1440x1560 pixels resolution and ship with Snapdragon 810 series Octa-core SoC (System on Chip), 3GB/4GB RAM, 20.7mp Sony camera on the rear-side and to impress selfie aficionados, it will be incorporated with feature-rich wide-angle snapper on the front.
Recently, Xiaomi joined hands with custom ROM developers team Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) to develop the new MIUI 7.0 OS, which is also expected to debut with Mi5.
"I wish to announce that all Team Kang members are working with Xiaomi on a new and refreshed MIUI 7, which will be finally based on Android 5.1, and be coming on the Mi 5," an AOKP spokesperson had mentioned in the official blog post.
However, Xiaomi has not responded to the rumours.
