Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi will now be participating in next year's Consumer Electronics Fair (2017) to be held during January in Las Vegas; USP of this news is that Xiaomi will target its global loyalists rather than just restrict itself to China and a few other Asian geographies. Another aspect is that Xiaomi's participation in next year's CES also potentially hints at the launch of a new smartphone.
At this point in time, as far as new Xiaomi smartphones are concerned, rumour mills are rife about the impending launch of the Mi SC that is now said to be internally codenamed 'Meri'. This alleged device has been making the rounds on Chinese social media network Weibo for quite some time. Reports have been flooding the internet with respect to the Xiaomi Mi 5C featuring a primary camera offering Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for captured images. A 2.5D Glass protector on the front is likely.
With Xiaomi at the CES 2017, launch of a new 'global' smartphone can definitely not be ruled out.
"And Mi Fans, we have a good news for you", states the official Xiaomi Mi forum. "next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace," adds the forum posting.
As of now, Xiaomi's recent Mi Mix bezel-less smartphone, despite not being physically available outside China, is continuing to grab eyeballs among Xiaomi loyalists across the world. What is heartening is the fact that the bezel-less handset even came out as a winner in numerous drop tests conducted by impartial technology expert JerryRig (via his YouTube channel).
