Xiaomi's low-end phablet model Redmi Note 5 will soon be receiving a huge security upgrade on par with its superior brethren Redmi Note 5 Pro.
In the recently released MIUI 10 8.8.2 Global Beta ROM, the company has introduced face unlock feature for the Redmi Note 5 variant. As per the initial reaction on the official MIUI consumer forum, the beta version seems to be stable and the False Reject Ratio (FRR) rate of face scanner is low.
When will the final public version come to the Redmi Note 5?
The MIUI 10 Global ROM public version is slated to seed early next month and going by feedback given by testers on the MIUI forum, there won't be any delay.
Once released, the face-unlock feature will offer the third layer of security to the Redmi Note 5, other two being the fingerprint scanner and the PIN (or pattern) lock.
In addition to the biometric feature, MIUI 10 update will also bring the Portrait mode option, which enables users to take Bokeh blur effect images on the front camera.
With this feature, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 owners will be able to take good selfie shots with clear face in the foreground and blurred background. This can be used for DPs (Display Picture) for social media platforms.
