Just when the anticipation for Xiaomi's rumoured Redmi Note 5, the successor of the company's bestselling Redmi Note 4 was about to hit a crescendo in the home market China and neighbouring India, a report has emerged that the device might never launch at all.
For long, reports indicated that Xiaomi would unveil Redmi Note 5 in January 2018; but, if the official company MIUI forum moderator is to be believed, the mid-range Redmi Note series has been shelved and it has been replaced with the recently released Redmi 5 Plus.
"The wait is finally over, Xiaomi has finally decided to release the Redmi Note 5, wait!!! I heard its called the Redmi 5 Plus? No kidding?? There was a name change? Well yes folks, the 2 new Redmi Note sized phones are named Redmi 5 for the 5.7" and Redmi 5 Plus for the 5.99". What will happen to the successor of the Redmi 4X which is supposed to be a 5" Redmi 5? No one knows, but as of the moment, Xiaomi has decided to drop the Note name on their 5.7" sized budget phones. It has been quite a year and 3 months in the waiting for all of us Redmi fans from all over the world, and now we are going to unbox the bigger sibling among the two, the Redmi 5 Plus," mitch002, official MIUI moderator said on the forum.
This apparently has shocked fans, as many of them were restraining from buying the Redmi 5 series, in anticipation of the Redmi Note 5. Though the former is a bit larger than its predecessor, the design on the back and the processor are same. Only discernible change is the FullView display with 18:9 aspect ratio.
On the other hand, the rumoured Redmi Note 5 is expected to flaunt FullView display and most importantly come with new generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 and better cameras.
Should Xiaomi fans let go off the idea of owning a Redmi Note 5?
Not just yet. Even though MIUI moderator says that Xiaomi has decided to discontinue Redmi Note series, fans need not get worried until the company officially confirms to the press, as might he might be misinformed. We believe, it is unwise for Xiaomi to drop such a good phone series, just when it is at the peak of popularity.
