Xiaomi announced Monday that it would finally launch the much-awaited Redmi Note 3 in India next week. The Chinese smartphone-maker is holding an event in New Delhi's Talkatora Stadium March 3 to showcase the budget smartphone for the first time to Indian consumers.
The Redmi Note 3 was originally launched in China last November. It is the company's first full-metal smartphone that also has a fingerprint scanner. Ever since its official unveiling, fans in India have been longing to get their hands on the device. After the long wait, Xiaomi is finally going to give the much-needed closure to the Redmi Note 3.
"Mi cares fans as friends and is well aware that every one of you has been asking about the launch date, (sic)" the company wrote on the its official blog. "We heard you. The wait is over. Mi is coming to India on March 3rd with the beast you guys desire. Yes, it is the launch for Redmi Note 3. (sic)"
The upcoming launch is not the first for Redmi Note 3 in India as the company had hosted a contest for 100 lucky fans to explore the device before its launch. The so-called Redmi Note 3 Explorers were given fun tasks to perform, which grabbed the attention of fans on social media platforms.
In terms of specifications, the handset is going to be a strong competitor against LeEco Le 1s, Lenovo K4 Note, Huawei Honor 5X and Gionee Elife S6. In India, the Chinese tech giant will launch the 3GB-RAM variant, which comes with 32GB storage. The Redmi Note 3 features a 5.5-inch Full-HD display with 403ppi, a 13-megapixel primary camera with PDAF and dual-tone LED flash, and a 5MP front-snapper.
The Redmi Note 3 is powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor, Android 5.1 Lollipop and a 4,000mAh battery. The handset also supports 4G LTE and dual SIM, among other connectivity options.
The price of the handset is still a mystery, but the official launch of the handset Thursday next week is going to end the secrecy. The word is the Redmi Note 3 will be priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000, which is reasonable considering the competition. Xiaomi is expected to sell the premium budget smartphone through its online store and an exclusive ecommerce partner in flash sales. The registrations for the first sale will begin on the launch day.
