All eyes are on Xiaomi's upcoming device, the Redmi Note 2, after the success of Redmi Note and Redmi Note 4G.
The Chinese smartphone maker is yet to reveal the release date of the device but several reports have claimed that it could see the light of the day in the third quarter this year.
It was earlier reported that Xiaomi might release both Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Pro on 29 June, with Xiaomi co-founder and CEO Lei Jun sparking rumours by posting on Weibo that the company would release a device on the day, but it didn't happen. The devices are now expected to hit stores in July.
Interestingly, a purported image of the Redmi Note 2, believed to have been taken from a testing area from one of Xiaomi's factories, has been uploaded on Chinese Microblogging site Weibo (via GSM Arena).
It is not sure if the image is the real Redmi Note 2 device, but it has stirred up curiosity among Xiaomi fans as the release of the device is expected to happen sooner than later.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is expected to come with several feature upgrades over its predecessor, the Redmi Note 4G, though it is not confirmed.
GSM Arena has reported that the device to be released as Hongmi Note in China will feature a 5.5-inch screen with 720p display, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU, a 13 MP main camera and a 5 MP front snapper.
It is also reported that the device might sport a 5.5-inch full HD (1,920x1,080p) screen, which means a much superior display compared to Redmi Note 4G.
There were reports that it might be powered by Mediatek (MT6795) Helio X10 processor and run on either Android 5.0.2 Lollipop or 5.1 Lollipop with MIUI.
On the other hand, the Redmi Note 4G sports a 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels (267 ppi pixel density), is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Quad-core processor with 1.6 GHz Cortex-A7 and runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (upgradable to Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
It comes packed with 8 GB internal memory expandable up to 64 GB via microSD card, 2 GB RAM, 13 MP main camera, a 5 MP front snapper and a 3100 mAh battery.
