Several details of Xiaomi's upcoming device Redmi Note 2, including features and price, have been leaked over the last few weeks with its release date drawing close.
The device is likely to compete with several mid-range smartphones like Lenovo K3 Note, Micromax Yu Yureka Plus, Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML, Moto G 3rd Gen, Xolo Black, Meizu 2 Note, Huawei Honor 4X and others in the India market when it is launched.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 was expected to hit the stores in July but it didn't happen. Now, My Driver (via Gizmo China) has claimed in a report that the device will be unveiled on 13 August along with Android-based operating system, MIUI 7. Chinese online retailer JD has claimed that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G successor will be up for pre-orders on 16 August.
The device, according to My Driver, will be priced at CNY 799 (approximately Rs 8,200 / $112 / €103) for 32 GB model, and CNY 699 (approximately Rs 7,200 / $112 / €103) for 16 GB variant. However, the device could come with a price tag of Rs 10,000 or more in India, as its predecessor, the Redmi Note 4G was priced Rs 9,999 at the time of its launch.
The same source went on to claim that Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 will sport a 5.5-inch touchscreen with 1080p resolution, powered by MediaTek MT6795 SoC processor clocking at 2 GHz, and house an octa-core CPU. It is also expected to come packed with 2 GB RAM, 13 MP rear camera, 5 MP front snapper, and 3,020 mAh battery.
It may be mentioned that GSM Arena had earlier claimed in a report that the device will come with features like a 5.5-inch screen with 720p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU, 13 MP main camera and a 5 MP front snapper. It was also reported that it will run on either Android 5.0.2 Lollipop or 5.1 Lollipop with MIUI.
