Early this month, Xiaomi co-founder (& CEO) Lei Jun, confirmed to fans that the company will unveil Redmi Note on Monday, 29 June.
Though he refrained from disclosing any key features of the device, there has been a series of reports that have given a glimpse of what we can expect in the upcoming mid-range phablet.
To provide a better perspective on the Redmi Note 2's key specifications, we have leafed through numerous reports and have put together a list of probable features, which are likely to make the cut in Xiaomi's new phablet.
1) Display:
Chinese technology blog Mobile Dad citing sources have claimed that Redmi Note 2 will retain the screen-size of its predecessor, but its resolution will be bumped from HD (1,280x720p) to full HD (1,920x1,080p).
2) Processor:
2014 model Redmi Note came in two variants - 3G model boasting Mediatek Octa-core CPU with Mali-450MP4, whereas the 4G variant housed a 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 series quad-core CPU(Chipset: MSM8928) with Adreno 305 graphics engine.
This year, Xiaomi is reported to boast Mediatek's latest 64-bit class chipset Helio X10 Octa-core with 4G-LTE Modem on tow. There is no information on whether the company will be releasing a separate 3G variant, but rumour has it that Xiaomi may launch top-end model Redmi Note 2 Pro. If it really gets launched, it may house 64-bit Snapdragon 615 series octa-core like the one we see in Xiaomi Mi 4i.
3) Battery:
To compensate the power-hogging full HD display, Redmi Note 2 is said to have 3,100 Plus mAh battery. Its predecessor houses 3,100mAh cell.
4) Android 5.x.x Lollipop update:
Xiaomi Mi 4i, which was launched in April came with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, so the upcoming Redmi Note 2 in all probability will come with v5.0.2 or the latest v5.1 with MIUI skin out-of-the-box. The 2014 model is yet to get Lollipop update.
5) Camera:
Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 is expected to pack 13mp camera with Sony Exmor sensor on the rear side and a 5mp snapper on the front.
6) Price:
Like its predecessor, it will be retailed as a mid-range phablet. So it is likely to priced between ₹10,000 (around ¥980/$158/€141) and ₹12,999 (around ¥1272/$205/€183).
As of now, nothing is set on stone. Despite numerous speculations running wild in the internet, Xiaomi has chosen to remain silent. In about a few hours, we will truly know what the company has in store for us.
