Xiaomi finally launched the Redmi 4 in India on Tuesday, months after its original release in China. The smartphone is the expansion of its Redmi 4 series, which currently includes Redmi 4A – the ultra-affordable smartphone priced at Rs. 5,999. The Redmi 4 comes in three variants, starting at Rs. 6,999 for the entry-level model and all the way up to Rs. 10,999 for the premium one.
For those who do a lot of multi-tasking, play games and more, good specs are essential. The high-end Redmi 4 variant is a suitable option, as it comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. At the price of Rs. 10,999, the new Redmi 4 isn't alone in India. Motorola recently unveiled the Moto G5 series, starting at that price, giving a tough competition to Xiaomi.
Moto G5 and Xiaomi Redmi 4 4GB RAM variant compete against one another fiercely. With the same price tag, it may be tough call for many buyers. Here's a comparison of Redmi 4 and Moto G5 that will help consumers decide which smartphone is worth Rs. 10,999.
Design & Display
Motorola's efforts can easily be seen in the redesigned Moto G5, which comes in a metal shell and a sturdy finish. The sides of the phone are plastic and the centre is metal, but the finishing is so seamless you can hardly tell the difference. Overall, the Moto G5 looks premium and neat.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 has a full metallic body, but it looks a lot like other Redmi smartphones.
Both smartphones have a compact 5-inch display, but the Moto G5 wins with the higher resolution of 1080p as compared to Redmi 4's 720p display. Clearly, the winner here is the Moto G5 with its new design and Full HD screen.
Camera & Battery
Moto G5 sports a 13MP rear-facing camera with PDAF and an f/2.0 aperture, which makes sure you are not disappointed with the results even in low-light conditions. On the front, there's a 5MP wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture, which is quite decent if not too great.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 comes with a 13MP camera on the back with f/2.2 aperture, LED flash, PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus). The front snapper is same as the Moto G5, but there's no mention of a wide angle lens.
In our view, the Moto G5 camera specs outperform Redmi 4 even if it is by a small margin. We'll have a clearer picture of the difference between the two phones once we review the Redmi 4 over the next few days.

In terms of battery, Xiaomi Redmi 4 leads with its massive 4,100mAh unit, while Moto G5 packs a 2,800mAh battery. There's fast charging tech in the Moto G5, and the handset is expected to last a good 10 hours with average consumption. Another aspect where we would like to reserve our final judgment until a complete review of the Redmi 4 is done. But we won't be surprised if the Redmi 4 lasts longer than the Moto G5.
Performance & Storage
Moto G5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset clocking at 1.4GHz, which is paired with 3GB RAM. The Redmi 4 is also backed by the same chipset, but has 4GB RAM, which translates to better multi-tasking capabilities. On the storage front, the Redmi 4 has 64GB space while the Moto G5 comes with 16GB expandable storage.
Performance-wise both phones will come quite close to one another, but Xiaomi takes the lead with three times the storage.

Add-ons
Both phones have fingerprint scanner for security, dual SIM card support, Android Nougat software and 4G LTE support as well. There are no features here that make one smartphone beat another one.
Availability
Moto G5 is available on Amazon India. It comes in Lunar Grey and Fine Gold options. Xiaomi Redmi 4 is also Amazon-exclusive and it will be available in a first sale on May 23. Buyers can choose from gold or black hues for the Redmi 4.
Conclusion
If we look at both phones individually, they're pretty great. Good value for money, premium specs, affordable price tag and good brand value makes both Redmi 4 and Moto G5 worth buying. After comparing both phones side by side, it is clear that the Moto G5 has more advantages over the Redmi 4. Xiaomi takes the lead with its storage and battery, but the Moto G5 has an upper hand on all other fronts.
