Xiaomi is reportedly set to launch its budget smartphone Redmi 4 in India on May 16, more than six months after it was unveiled in its home country China. The popular smartphone maker is yet to announce the exact release date but its India chief and vice president (global) Manu Kumar Jain has tweeted that it is going to launch a new Redmi phone soon.
The Xiaomi Redmi 4 was launched in China in November last year. It comes in two variants – one with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor priced at ¥699 (roughly Rs. 6,900) and the other with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset at ¥899 (around Rs. 8,888). The company hasn't announced the Indian pricing but reports have claimed that it could be priced below Rs 10,000, probably Rs 9,999.

If the pricing turn out right, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 will have to compete with some sub-Rs 10,000 smartphones like the Moto G4 (Rs 10,490), Lenovo K6 Power (Rs 9,999), and Moto G4 Play (Rs 7999). It will also compete with handsets from its same company like the Redmi Note 4 (Rs 9,999 for 2GB RAM/ 32GB ROM model / Rs 10,999 for 3GB RAM/ 32GB ROM model), and Redmi 3S Prime (Rs 8,999).
Will it survive the competition in the India smartphone market? It is still to be seen but here is specification of some the most popular budget handsets currently available in Indian market to help you buy one that best suits your taste and budget:
