Of more than 2 million "notify me" alerts on Amazon India, where the Redmi 4 went on sale exclusively, only a fraction of them were able to place a successful order. The company boasted on Twitter about a new milestone for its Redmi 4, which was sold out in just 8 minutes. According to the tweet, more than 250,000 units were sold on day one, which also marks a hat-trick for Xiaomi's Redmi series.
Howzat!! It's a hat-trick! Redmi Note 4 followed by Redmi 4A and now Redmi 4. Can't thank all you #MiFans enough for so much love! <3 pic.twitter.com/b8N3iFT4zy

The first Redmi model to crack the milestone was Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, which went on sale in January, and saw 250,000 units sold in just 10 minutes. The success story was followed by Redmi 4A, which also witnessed 250,000 sold units in less than 4 minutes in March. And now, the Redmi 4 continues the legacy in the best way it can.
If the trend continues, it won't be long before the Redmi 4 will be rated one of the most shipped smartphones in the current quarter. The Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 3S were the most shipped smartphones in the first quarter of 2017.
"Redmi 4 is our effort to provide a premium experience in the budget segment and we hope it is experienced by lakhs of customers. The love from our Mi Fans has been tremendous and it has allowed us to do a hat-trick of selling 250,000 units each in the first sales of all our smartphones this year," Raghu Reddy, Online Sales Head of Xiaomi India, said in a statement.
If you are surprised by the response for the Redmi 4 in India, a re-run of the handset's specs can help you understand. The Redmi 4 comes in 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM and 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM storage variants, priced at Rs. 6,999 and Rs. 8,999, respectively.
Both phones feature a 5-inch HD IPS display with 2.5D curved glass, a 13MP rear-facing camera with LED flash, PDAF and AF, and a 5MP snapper for selfies. The smartphones feature a fingerprint scanner at the back, a 4,1000mAh battery to run the show and dual SIM 4G VoLTE support. It is powered by a Snapdragon 435 chipset, Android Marshmallow-based MIUI 8 out-of-the-box.
The handset's price and specs are not the concern here, as the bigger question is when the Redmi 4 will go on sale again.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 is available exclusively on Amazon.in and Mi.com. The next sale is scheduled for May 30 on both sites. If the first flash sale is any indication, it is important you login before 12 noon and wait for the sale to begin. If not, you might lose out on another chance to buy the smartphone.
